iPhone 8 Plus Not Pairing with Bluetooth? Here’s How to Fix It

Bluetooth is supposed to make things easy — connecting your iPhone 8 Plus to your headphones, car stereo, or speakers should take seconds. But if your phone suddenly refuses to pair with a Bluetooth device after an update or out of nowhere, it can be seriously annoying.

Good news: most Bluetooth pairing problems can be fixed with a few simple steps. Here’s how to troubleshoot and fix Bluetooth issues on your iPhone 8 Plus.

Make Sure Bluetooth and the Device Are Ready

Before anything else, check the basics:

  • Bluetooth is turned on (Settings > Bluetooth).
  • The Bluetooth device is powered on and in pairing mode.
  • The device is within 30 feet of your iPhone.

If that’s all good and it still won’t pair, start with these fixes.

Restart Your iPhone (Soft Reset)

Sometimes, all your phone needs is a quick reboot to get Bluetooth working again.

To restart your iPhone 8 Plus:

  1. Press and hold the Side button until “Slide to power off” appears.
  2. Drag the slider to turn it off.
  3. Wait 30 seconds, then press and hold the Side button again to turn it back on.

Turn Bluetooth Off and Back On

Refreshing Bluetooth can clear out any minor glitches.

  1. Go to Settings > Bluetooth.
  2. Toggle Bluetooth off, wait a few seconds, then toggle it back on.

Or, just swipe into Control Center and tap the Bluetooth icon off and on again.

Power Cycle Your Bluetooth Device

The issue might be with the other device, not your iPhone. Try restarting or toggling Bluetooth pairing mode on the device itself.

  • Turn the device off completely.
  • Wait a few seconds.
  • Turn it back on and re-enter pairing mode.

Then try connecting to it again.

Forget the Bluetooth Device and Reconnect

If the connection is stuck or corrupted, forgetting and re-pairing often fixes it.

  1. Go to Settings > Bluetooth.
  2. Tap the “i” next to the device name.
  3. Tap Forget This Device > Forget Device to confirm.
  4. Restart your iPhone, then try pairing again.

Reset Network Settings

This clears all Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and VPN settings — great for fixing stubborn connectivity issues.

  1. Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset.
  2. Tap Reset Network Settings.
  3. Enter your passcode if asked, then confirm.

Your phone will restart and you’ll need to reconnect to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth devices afterward.

Try Pairing with Another Bluetooth Device

This helps you figure out where the problem is.

  • If your iPhone 8 Plus can pair with other devices, the issue is likely with the original Bluetooth device.
  • If it can’t pair with anything, the issue is probably on your iPhone.

Still Not Working? Try a Factory Reset

This should be your last resort before a service appointment. It wipes your iPhone and reinstalls everything fresh — so back up your data first.

  1. Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Erase All Content and Settings.
  2. Set up your iPhone as new and try pairing again.

Go Even Deeper: DFU Mode Restore

If Bluetooth is still broken, a DFU restore may help. This reloads all firmware from scratch, bypassing the operating system. It’s advanced — and erases everything — but worth trying before heading to the Apple Store.

Get It Checked for Hardware Issues

If your iPhone still won’t pair, even after a full restore, it could be a hardware issue. Your phone’s Bluetooth antenna might be damaged — especially if it recently took a drop or had water exposure.

Visit an Apple Store or authorized repair center to get it looked at.
