iPhone 7 Not Sending MMS? Here’s How to Fix It

If your iPhone 7 can’t send MMS (picture or video messages), you’re not alone. Whether it’s failing to send photos, showing an error, or just refusing to go through at all—there are several reasons why this could happen. The good news? Most MMS problems can be fixed without a trip to the Apple Store. Here’s how to troubleshoot and get MMS working again on your iPhone 7.

1. Make Sure MMS Is Supported on Your Plan

Before diving into settings, double-check with your carrier:

  • Contact your carrier to confirm that MMS messaging is enabled for your account.
  • Some data plans don’t include MMS, or MMS might be disabled by default.

2. Check Network Connection

MMS requires a cellular data connection, not just Wi-Fi.

  • Go to Settings > Cellular
  • Make sure Cellular Data is on
  • Try turning Wi-Fi off, then send the picture message again

📝 iMessage requires Wi-Fi or cellular, but MMS only works over cellular.

3. Toggle Airplane Mode and Restart

This quick trick can reset your iPhone’s network.

  • Open Control Center and toggle Airplane Mode on
  • Wait 10 seconds, then turn it off again
  • Now try sending an MMS

Also try a soft reset:

  • Hold the Power button until “slide to power off” appears
  • Turn off your iPhone, wait 30 seconds, then turn it back on

4. Make Sure MMS Messaging Is Enabled

Sometimes the setting is off without you realizing.

  • Go to Settings > Messages
  • Scroll down and make sure MMS Messaging is turned on

5. Delete Old Messages or Threads

A cluttered Messages app can cause MMS to misbehave.

  • Open Settings > Messages > Keep Messages
  • Set it to 30 Days or 1 Year
  • Confirm deletion of old messages

Or manually delete large MMS threads by swiping left and tapping Delete.

6. Remove and Reinsert Your SIM Card

A faulty or poorly seated SIM can cause messaging issues.

  • Turn off your iPhone
  • Use a SIM eject tool or paperclip to remove the SIM tray
  • Wait a few seconds, reinsert the SIM, then turn your iPhone back on

7. Reset Network Settings

If the issue is tied to corrupted network configurations, a reset can help.

  • Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset
  • Tap Reset Network Settings
  • Enter your passcode and confirm

Your Wi-Fi passwords will be erased, so make sure you have them saved.

8. Update iOS

iOS updates often fix bugs, including those affecting MMS and messaging.

  • Go to Settings > General > Software Update
  • Download and install any available updates
  • Restart your phone and try again

9. Restore via iTunes (Optional)

If all else fails, a full restore may resolve the problem—but this will erase your data.

  1. Back up your iPhone to iCloud or iTunes first
  2. Connect your iPhone to your computer
  3. Open iTunes (or Finder on Mac)
  4. Select your iPhone and click Restore iPhone
  5. Follow the prompts and set your device up as new

10. Contact Apple or Your Carrier

Still having issues?

  • Call your carrier to check if there’s a known network outage
  • If your iPhone recently had an iOS update, contact Apple Support
  • Visit an Apple Store or authorized service provider if you suspect hardware trouble
