Problem 1: iPhone 7 mobile data and wifi not working
So I’m having connection issues with my IPhone 7 Plus. What happens is my carrier service fails me. Any type of internet connection does not work, Safari, iMessages, and every other app. So when that fails I try WIFI, then WIFI doesn’t work. With Apple, I did the troubleshooting numerous times. Resets, restores, changing settings, you name it, it was done. It progressively got worse and worse so much so that the phone was doing it so frequently that it was rendering the phone useless. That led them to finally issue me a replacement phone.
Woohoo!!! … whelp today the issues I dreaded have returned. I spoke to Apple, they said to go through the typical 3 ring circus troubleshooting AGAIN. Quite frankly they’ve put me through hell and I can’t take it anymore. They claim it’s my carrier, but offer me no advice on questions to ask or issues they can have on my service AND WiFi.
I’m hoping you can help me in some way shape or form in fixing this, pinpointing it, or leading me in the right direction. If it were my Carrier I don’t understand how it would effect my WIFI service too. For this to happen to TWO phones is crazy. Please help! — Kevin
Solution: Hi Kevin. We don’t think it’s an issue with your carrier for two reasons. The first reason is the fact that your internet woes also occurs when you’re using wifi. Mobile data is a carrier-specific service but wifi is not. This means that if the issue comes from the carrier side, it should stop with mobile data. Wifi should still work, regardless of the status of your mobile data service. The second reason is that the issue persists even with the replacement phone. That means that the problem is most probably something that you did or add later on.
The most likely cause of your problem is due to a bad app. If you simply restored the phone and re-add all apps (including the problematic one), you really can’t expect to fix an issue like this.
We suggest that you try to wipe the phone and observe how internet works, either in mobile data mode or wifi mode. To wipe your iPhone 7, follow these steps:
- Open Settings app.
- Tap General.
- Tap Reset.
- Tap Erase All Content and Settings.
- If prompted, enter your passcode.
- Tap Erase iPhone.
Remember, erasing all contents and settings means wiping the phone clean so be sure that you back your files up either in iCloud or iTunes or both. Also, make sure that you sign out of iCloud in your iPhone 7 to ensure Find My iPhone Activation Lock is removed.
Once you’ve wiped the phone clean, set it back up and check how mobile data and wifi works. Make sure not to install anything at this point. To be sure, try to observe the phone while it’s in this state for at least 24 hours. If the problem won’t return, then we’re right. To prevent the issue from returning, you must then screen your apps that you’ll re-install later on. To do that, be sure to check how internet works after every app installation. In other words, you want to install, then observe, install, then observe. Do this cycle for each and every app and you’ll eventually find the problematic one.
Problem 2: iPhone 7 can’t connect to office wifi
Bought a new iPhone 7. Any other gadgets including my other iPhone 5S and Macbook can connect to my office wifi but not my new iPhone 7. It can connect though to my home wifi. It says “no internet connection. How can I fix this issue? — Joseph
Solution: Hi Joseph. Your office wifi may only allow registered devices to connect so we recommend that you talk to your IT department about it. This is clearly not a device issue since your iPhone can connect fine to your home wifi.
Problem 3: iPhone 7 LTE and wifi not working, creating backup via iTunes
I can’t connect with LTE OR WIFI with my iPhone 7plus since yesterday 1pm. I did try turns off /turned back on, it’s not working. And trying to restore my phone they need turning off I cloud and find my iPhone. But no network can’t do anything!!! Please help. — Eva
Solution: Hi Eva. Since you’re having trouble connecting to both wifi and mobile data, this is most probably an iOS bug, or something similar to the one Kevin is experiencing above. We suggest that you reset all settings first to refresh iOS settings including network and wifi settings. Here’s how:
- From the Home screen, go to Settings>General>Reset.
- Tap Reset All Settings.
- If presented, enter the passcode.
- Tap Reset All Settings to confirm.
Once you’ve reset all settings, you then want to check how internet works. If the problem stay, you then want to proceed with the Erase All Content and Settings procedure. Kindly refer to the steps we give for Kevin.
If you can’t back your files via iCloud, we suggest that you do it via iTunes. This is exactly the reason why Apple does not just provide iCloud in backing up your phone.
To create a backup via iTunes, you must have a PC or Mac. Once that’s taken care of, follow these steps:
- Make sure that iTunes is up-to-date.
- Launch the iTunes program on your computer.
- Connect your iPhone to your computer via cable.
- Enter the correct passcode if necessary.
- Click the Back Up Now button.
- Wait until the backup process is finished.
Problem 4: iPhone 7 can’t connect to mobile hotspot
Dear, I have two iPhones. One is 5S and one is iPhone 7. I am using my data SIM in iPhone 5S and when i am trying to connect wifi in iPhone 7 from 5S via hotspot, it is showing connected but it’s not working anything. I’m not able to open anything in my iPhone 7. Please help me how to fix it. — Atifash
Solution: Hi Atifash. An important question that only you can answer is this: does your iPhone 5S hotspot work? Most carriers do not provide hotspot service for free. You need to pay for hotspot service on top of your active mobile data subscription. To check, try to connect another smartphone or wireless device such as a laptop in your iPhone 5S hotspot and see it can connect to the internet. If it does, then you should focus your troubleshooting in your iPhone 7. However, if another device can’t also connect to the internet when using your iPhone 5S hotspot, then you have to talk to your carrier about it.
If you want to troubleshoot your iPhone 7, make sure that you try to refresh all settings first.
- From the Home screen, go to Settings>General>Reset.
- Tap Reset All Settings.
- If presented, enter the passcode.
- Tap Reset All Settings to confirm.
Reset All Settings should wipe all network settings like previously connected wifi networks as well as passwords. If nothing will change after doing it, you can then try a full restore.
- Create a backup of your files. You can do that in a number of ways but the fastest and most effective way is by using iTunes in your PC or Mac. If you don’t want to create a backup at all, you can simply erase everything on the phone by following the steps in this link.
- Connect your iPhone to your computer with the cable that came with your phone.
- We assume you remember your phone’s passcode so simply enter it when you’re prompted for it.
- Select your iPhone once iTunes asks you for the specific device.
- Once you’re in the Summary panel or screen, select the option that will restore your device (Restore).
- Confirm by clicking on Restore button.
- Wait for a few moments while iTunes restores your device to its factory settings. It may also take some time if iTunes will need to install an updated operating system version.
- After this factory reset, all software settings should be restored to their defaults.
