The camera is one of the biggest reasons people buy the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. When it starts acting up, it’s understandably frustrating. Whether it’s autofocus issues, blurry selfies, or the camera not working at all, here’s how you can troubleshoot and (hopefully) fix it.
iPhone 6 Plus Autofocus Not Working
Problem:
The camera stays stuck focusing on close objects only. Even after Apple replaced the camera under their iSight replacement program, the problem persists. Resetting and setting up as a new device didn’t help either.
Solution:
Apple uses Phase-detection autofocus (called Focus Pixels) on the iPhone 6 series. If autofocus isn’t working:
- It’s almost always a hardware issue — either the camera module or the motherboard.
- Since you’ve already had the camera replaced, the motherboard is likely the problem.
Unfortunately, there’s no software fix for this.
- Go back to Apple or your authorized repair center and demand a proper replacement or repair.
- If your warranty is still valid, insist on a working unit.
There are millions of iPhones 6/6 Plus units without this issue, so blaming the motherboard without helping you isn’t acceptable.
iPhone 6s Plus Rear Camera Not Working
Problem:
The rear camera shows only a thin line at the top of the screen — the rest is black. The front camera works fine.
Solution:
Here’s what you should do:
- Install iOS and app updates to make sure it’s not a software bug.
- Restart your iPhone after updating.
- Force close the Camera app:
- Double-press the Home button, find the Camera app, and swipe it up to close.
- Restore your iPhone:
- Backup your data.
- Connect to iTunes and restore your device to factory settings.
If the problem stays after a full restore, it’s a hardware issue — probably a bad rear camera module.
- Contact Apple or a trusted repair shop for service.
iPhone 6 Plus Front Camera Blurry
Problem:
The front-facing camera is blurry for photos and videos. You’ve already tried cleaning the lens, removing the case, adjusting focus, updating the software, and even a full factory reset.
Solution:
Since you’ve already ruled out software issues:
- This is almost certainly hardware-related.
- If you’re out of warranty, you might have to pay for a front camera replacement through a reputable repair shop or Apple (if available in your region).
Unfortunately, blurry cameras are not fixable through settings once it’s a hardware fault.
iPhone 6 Front Camera Stopped Working After Screen Replacement
Problem:
After getting the screen replaced at a third-party repair shop (uBreakiFix), the front camera stopped working — even after they replaced the camera part. A factory reset didn’t help.
Solution:
The most likely cause:
- Damage to a flex cable or misalignment during reassembly when they replaced your screen.
Here’s what you can do:
- Bring the phone back to the repair shop and have them recheck their work.
- If they can’t fix it, you might need to find a better repair technician to properly diagnose and replace the flex cable or camera module.
If you’re comfortable and have the tools, you could attempt the repair yourself — but that’s only recommended if you’re confident with delicate hardware repairs.
