iPhone 5s Slow Internet? Here’s How to Speed It Up
Is your iPhone 5s taking forever to load websites or stream content, even when it’s connected to Wi-Fi? A slow internet connection can be frustrating — especially when you’re unsure whether the problem is your phone, your router, or your provider. Here’s how to fix sluggish browsing speeds and get your iPhone 5s moving faster again.
1. Close and Clear Your Browser
If Safari or any browser is glitchy, that alone could be slowing you down.
Close Safari:
- Double-tap the Home button
- Swipe up on Safari to close it
Clear Safari cache:
- Go to Settings > Safari
- Tap Clear History and Website Data
- Confirm
Also: If you use Chrome or another browser, check the app settings to clear cache and cookies. And make sure all your apps are up to date through the App Store > Updates tab.
2. Restart Your iPhone 5s
A simple reboot can wipe out minor bugs and refresh your connection.
- Press and hold the Power (Sleep/Wake) button until the slider appears
- Slide to power off
- After 30 seconds, hold the Power button again until the Apple logo shows
3. Toggle Wi-Fi Off and On
This refreshes your network connection.
- Go to Settings > Wi-Fi
- Turn Wi-Fi OFF, wait 5–10 seconds, then turn it ON
- Reconnect to your Wi-Fi network
4. Use the Airplane Mode Trick
Airplane Mode resets all wireless radios.
- Go to Settings > Airplane Mode and turn it ON
- Wait 30 seconds, then turn it OFF
- Reconnect to Wi-Fi and check your speed
5. Forget Your Wi-Fi Network and Reconnect
A corrupted Wi-Fi profile can cause slow internet.
- Go to Settings > Wi-Fi
- Tap the “i” next to your connected network
- Tap Forget This Network
- Reboot your iPhone
- Return to Wi-Fi settings and reconnect
6. Reset Network Settings
If the issue persists, reset all network settings.
- Go to Settings > General > Reset
- Tap Reset Network Settings
- Enter your passcode and confirm
Note: This erases saved Wi-Fi passwords, VPN settings, and APNs.
7. Restart or Reset Your Modem/Router
Sometimes, the issue is with your internet equipment — not your phone.
- Unplug your router/modem for 30 seconds
- Plug it back in and wait for all lights to stabilize
- Reconnect your iPhone and test again
Still Slow? Try These Next Steps
- Update iOS: Go to Settings > General > Software Update
- Try another Wi-Fi network to isolate the issue
- Move closer to the router for better signal
- Disable VPNs or proxies that may throttle your speed
If nothing works, contact your Internet service provider to check for outages or request a modem reset. A full factory reset on your iPhone may help too — just back up your data first.
