How to Use Your iPhone XS Max as a Mobile Hotspot

Your iPhone XS Max can double as a personal Wi-Fi hotspot, letting you share your mobile data connection with other devices like laptops, tablets, or even game consoles. Whether you’re traveling, dealing with a home internet outage, or just need quick access on the go, setting up a hotspot is quick and easy.

Here’s how to turn your iPhone XS Max into a mobile hotspot and connect other devices to it.

Set Up Mobile Hotspot on iPhone XS Max

  1. Go to Settings > General > About.
    • Tap Name and change it if you want to customize how your hotspot appears on other devices.
  2. Go back to Settings > Personal Hotspot.
    • If you don’t see it right away, check under Cellular or Carrier.
  3. Toggle on “Allow Others to Join” to activate the hotspot.
  4. Set a Strong Password:
    • Tap Wi-Fi Password and enter at least 8 characters using a mix of letters, numbers, and symbols.
    • This keeps your connection secure and limits access to trusted devices.

Now your iPhone XS Max is broadcasting a Wi-Fi signal other devices can connect to.

Connect Another Device to Your iPhone’s Hotspot

To connect a device like a laptop or tablet:

  1. Turn on Wi-Fi on the other device.
  2. Find your iPhone’s hotspot name in the list of available networks.
  3. Select it and enter the Wi-Fi password you just created.

The device should now be connected to the internet through your iPhone’s mobile data.

Need to Turn Off Your Hotspot?

It’s smart to disable Personal Hotspot when you’re done to save battery and avoid accidental data usage.

To turn off hotspot:

  • Go to Settings > Personal Hotspot, then toggle off Allow Others to Join.

Troubleshooting Tip

If your other devices can’t connect or aren’t getting internet:

  • Restart your iPhone XS Max.
  • Reset network settings:
Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings.

Heads-Up on Data Usage

Hotspot usage counts against your monthly data allowance. Check with your carrier to:

  • Understand your plan’s hotspot limits
  • Avoid unexpected overage charges
  • Upgrade your data plan if needed
