How to Fix iPhone XR No Service Error After iOS Update

Seeing a “No Service” message on your iPhone XR after updating to iOS 13? You’re not alone — many users experience this annoying issue where they suddenly can’t make calls or send texts. The good news is that in most cases, you can fix this yourself with a few simple steps.

1. Turn Airplane Mode On and Off

This quick trick resets your phone’s wireless radios.

  • Open Settings > Airplane Mode.
  • Toggle it on, wait 10 seconds, then toggle it off.
  • Wait a few more seconds and check for signal bars.

2. Restart Your iPhone XR

A fresh reboot can clear minor post-update bugs.

Soft reset:

  • Press and hold Side + Volume Up or Down until the power slider appears.
  • Drag the slider to turn off.
  • Wait 30 seconds, then turn it back on.

Force restart (if needed):

  • Press and release Volume Up.
  • Press and release Volume Down.
  • Press and hold the Side button until you see the Apple logo.

3. Reseat the SIM Card

A misaligned or dirty SIM can cause signal loss.

  • Power off your iPhone XR.
  • Use a SIM ejector tool or paperclip to remove the SIM tray.
  • Take out the SIM, wipe it gently, and reinsert it properly.
  • Turn your phone back on and check the signal.

4. Reset Network Settings

If the iOS update changed key settings, this will restore defaults.

  • Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
  • Enter your passcode and confirm.

Note: This will erase saved Wi-Fi networks and Bluetooth pairings.

5. Restore Your iPhone via iTunes

If the error still shows, a full restore might be your best bet.

  • Back up your iPhone using iCloud or iTunes.
  • Connect your iPhone XR to a computer with iTunes installed.
  • Select your device, then choose Restore iPhone.
  • Follow the on-screen prompts to reinstall iOS and set up your iPhone as new.

Still No Signal? Contact Apple or Your Carrier

If you’ve tried everything and still see “No Service,” there could be a hardware issue or a problem with your account. Contact:

  • Apple Support to rule out iPhone-related problems.
  • Your mobile carrier to check if there’s an issue on their end or with your SIM.
