Messenger Keeps Crashing or Won’t Load on iPad Pro? Try These Fixes
If Facebook Messenger is constantly crashing, freezing, or won’t open on your iPad Pro, it’s likely due to a software glitch, a broken update, or a network issue. Here are the most effective ways to troubleshoot and get Messenger working again.
1. Force Quit Messenger and Restart Your iPad
Start with a simple reset:
- Swipe up from the bottom and pause in the middle of the screen.
- Find Messenger, then swipe up on its card to force close it.
To restart your iPad:
- Hold the Top button + Volume button until the slider appears.
- Slide to power off.
- Turn your iPad back on after 30 seconds and relaunch Messenger.
2. Check Your Internet Connection
Messenger won’t work without a stable connection.
- Open Safari and load a few websites.
- If slow or failing, reboot your router or switch to a different Wi-Fi network.
- You can also try toggling Airplane Mode on and off.
3. Update the Messenger App
App updates often include crash fixes.
- Open the App Store > Updates tab.
- Tap Update next to Messenger, or Update All to install all available updates.
- Restart your iPad afterward and try launching the app again.
4. Delete and Reinstall Messenger
If the app is corrupted, reinstalling can help.
- Tap and hold the Messenger icon until it jiggles.
- Tap X, then Delete to remove the app.
- Open the App Store, search for Messenger, and reinstall it.
- Log back in and test the app.
5. Check Screen Time Restrictions
Messenger may be restricted under parental controls.
- Go to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions.
- Tap Allowed Apps and ensure Messenger is toggled ON.
- Alternatively, turn off restrictions entirely and test again.
6. Reset All Settings
A misconfigured system setting may be the issue.
- Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPad > Reset > Reset All Settings.
- Enter your passcode and confirm.
This won’t delete your data, but it will reset system settings like Wi-Fi and privacy options.
Still Not Working? Try These:
- Use Messenger.com in Safari or another browser as a workaround.
- Check for app or server outages on Facebook’s Help Center.
- Report the issue to Apple Support if it began after an iOS update.
