iPhone 11 Not Charging Properly? Here’s How to Fix It

Some iPhone 11, 11 Pro, and 11 Pro Max users have reported frustrating issues where their phone won’t charge properly—or stops charging altogether. Symptoms include the charging icon disappearing instantly, the battery not increasing while plugged in, or the phone not recognizing the charger at all. If that sounds like what you’re dealing with, try these proven fixes before heading to a repair center.

1. Check Your Charging Cable

Start with the basics. If your iPhone isn’t charging properly, your charging cable or power adapter might be the problem.

  • Make sure you’re using an Apple-certified (MFi) cable—not a cheap third-party one.
  • Inspect the cable for frays, bends, or damage near the ends.
  • Try using a different cable and adapter if you have one available.

⚠️ Avoid using cables that heat up quickly or feel loose when connected—they can damage your iPhone battery over time.

2. Inspect and Clean the Lightning Port

Sometimes, charging problems are due to dirt or lint clogging the charging port.

To clean it safely:

  • Use a flashlight to look inside the port.
  • Carefully remove any debris using a dry, soft-bristled toothbrush, anti-static brush, or a clean toothpick.
  • Don’t use liquids or metal objects.

Even a tiny bit of dust can block the connection between your cable and iPhone.

3. Force Restart Your iPhone

A simple reboot can clear software glitches that may be preventing your phone from charging.

To force restart:

  1. Quickly press and release the Volume Up button.
  2. Quickly press and release the Volume Down button.
  3. Press and hold the Side button until the Apple logo appears.

After the restart, plug your phone in again and check if it starts charging normally.

4. Disable Optimized Battery Charging

The iPhone 11 lineup includes a feature called Optimized Battery Charging that pauses charging at 80% to preserve long-term battery health.

This can make it seem like your phone isn’t charging when in fact, it’s just waiting.

To disable it:

  1. Go to Settings > Battery.
  2. Tap Battery Health & Charging.
  3. Turn off Optimized Battery Charging.

This is safe to disable temporarily. You can turn it back on later after confirming whether it’s contributing to the problem.

Still Not Charging? Try These Extras

  • Use a different outlet or power source (e.g., wall charger instead of USB port).
  • Remove your phone case, especially if it’s bulky or has magnetic attachments.
  • Check for iOS updates under Settings > General > Software Update.
  • Reset all settings under Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset All Settings (won’t delete your data).

If your iPhone 11 still won’t charge correctly after trying these steps, it could be a deeper hardware issue. At that point, it’s best to:

  • Visit an Apple Store or certified service provider.
  • Or contact Apple Support for next steps.
