iPhone Alarm Not Making Sound? Here’s How to Fix It

Depending on your iPhone’s alarm to wake you—only to oversleep—is the worst kind of morning panic. Don’t worry: in most cases, a quick settings tweak gets your alarm ringing again. Follow the fixes below and you’ll never miss another wake-up call.

1. Turn the Ringer All the Way Up

  1. Open Control Center (swipe down from the top-right corner).
  2. Drag the volume slider to maximum.
  3. Flip the Ring/Silent switch (left side of the phone) upward so orange isn’t showing—alarms can stay silent when the phone’s in Silent mode.

2. Pick an Actual Alarm Sound

If the sound is set to None, your alarm only vibrates.

  1. Open Clock › Alarm.
  2. Tap Edit › the alarm you use.
  3. Tap Sound and choose any built-in ringtone or song.
  4. Hit Back, then Save.

3. Double-Check the Time and AM/PM

  1. In Clock › Alarm, look for any accidental PM when you meant AM (or vice-versa).
  2. Tap the alarm, adjust the time, and Save.

4. Make Sure It Repeats on the Right Days

  1. Tap the alarm in Clock › Alarm.
  2. Under Repeat, tick the weekdays (or weekends) you need.
  3. Tap Back, then Save.

5. Restart Your iPhone

  1. Hold Side button + either Volume button until slide to power off appears.
  2. Drag the slider; wait 15 seconds.
  3. Press the Side button again to power back on.

6. Update iOS

  1. Go to Settings › General › Software Update.
  2. Tap Download and Install if an update is available.
  3. Let the phone restart when it’s finished.

7. Reset All Settings (No Data Loss)

  1. Head to Settings › General › Transfer or Reset iPhone › Reset › Reset All Settings.
  2. Enter your passcode and confirm.
  3. After the reboot, re-create your alarm and test it.

8. Delete Your Old Alarms and Create a Fresh One

  1. In Clock › Alarm, tap Edit › Delete on every alarm.
  2. Tap + to add a brand-new alarm with the correct time, repeat days, and sound.

9. Still Silent? Get Apple Support

If the speaker sounds distorted in other apps—or there’s been water/physical damage—hardware might be to blame. Book a Genius Bar appointment or contact Apple Support for a hands-on checkup.
