iPad Pro Not Recognized in iTunes – How to Fix Unknown Error 0xE
If your iPad Pro isn’t showing up in iTunes and you’re seeing the dreaded “unknown error 0xE” message, you’re not alone. This issue typically stems from a faulty USB connection, outdated software, or a blocked connection due to security software. Here’s how to fix iTunes not recognizing your iPad Pro and eliminate the 0xE error.
1. Restart Everything
Start simple—it could just be a minor sync glitch.
- Unplug your iPad from the computer.
- Restart both your iPad and your computer.
- Reconnect your iPad using an official Lightning cable.
- Open iTunes (or Finder) and see if your iPad appears.
2. Try a Different USB Port or Cable
A faulty port or cable can block the connection.
- Plug into a different USB port—preferably one on the back of a desktop PC.
- Avoid USB hubs.
- Try a different Apple-certified Lightning cable.
Also disconnect any unnecessary USB devices while troubleshooting.
3. Update iTunes and Your Operating System
An outdated version of iTunes may not detect newer iOS versions.
- On Windows:
- Open iTunes > Help > Check for Updates.
- If iTunes is from the Microsoft Store, check for updates via the Microsoft Store app.
- On macOS Mojave or earlier: Use the App Store to update iTunes.
- On macOS Catalina or later: Use Finder instead of iTunes.
Don’t forget to update Windows or macOS to the latest version as well.
4. Disable Security Software Temporarily
Firewalls, antivirus programs, or security suites can block USB communications.
- Disable any third-party antivirus or firewall software temporarily.
- Reconnect your iPad and open iTunes.
- If the iPad is recognized now, adjust the security software’s settings to allow iTunes/iOS access.
5. Reinstall or Update Apple Mobile Device USB Driver (Windows)
If the Apple USB driver is missing or corrupted, iTunes won’t recognize your iPad.
If you installed iTunes from the Microsoft Store:
- Disconnect your iPad.
- Unlock it and return to the Home Screen.
- Plug it into your PC again.
- Open Device Manager.
- Expand Portable Devices, right-click your iPad, and choose Update driver.
- Select Search automatically for updated driver software.
After it installs, restart your PC and reconnect your iPad.
6. Check iOS Compatibility for Restores
If you’re restoring from a backup, make sure the backup version matches your iPad’s iOS version or is newer. You can’t restore a backup made from a newer iOS onto an older one.
Still Not Working?
- Try using a different computer.
- If the problem happens with all devices and all ports, your iTunes installation or system drivers may be corrupted.
