iPhone X Not Receiving Emails in Mail App? Here’s How to Fix It

If your iPhone X suddenly stops receiving emails through the built-in Mail app, you’re not alone. Whether you’re missing new messages, getting outdated inboxes, or just not seeing anything come through at all, this guide will walk you through how to troubleshoot and fix the issue — step by step.

Why Your iPhone X Isn’t Getting Emails

There are a few common reasons:

  • No internet connection (Wi-Fi or cellular)
  • Incorrect email account settings
  • Software glitches or iOS bugs
  • Server issues with your email provider
  • Mail app bugs or sync issues after updates

How to Fix iPhone X Email Not Working

1. Check Your Internet Connection

Open Safari and try visiting a website.

  • If the page loads, your connection is fine.
  • If it doesn’t, try toggling Wi-Fi off and on, or switch to cellular data.

Also make sure Airplane Mode is off.

2. Force Close and Reopen the Mail App

  • Swipe up from the bottom and pause in the middle of the screen.
  • Swipe up on the Mail app to close it.
  • Reopen Mail and check your inbox.

3. Restart Your iPhone X

  • Press and hold Side button + Volume button until “slide to power off” appears.
  • Slide to turn off.
  • Wait 30 seconds and power it back on.

4. Check Date and Time Settings

Incorrect system time can cause email sync issues.

  • Go to Settings > General > Date & Time
  • Turn on Set Automatically

5. Log In to Your Webmail

Use a browser to check your email account directly.

  • If you can receive emails in your webmail, the problem is with the Mail app.
  • If emails don’t show there either, the issue is on the email provider’s side.

6. Remove and Re-Add Your Email Account

Corrupt settings or token issues can block emails from syncing.

  • Go to Settings > Mail > Accounts
  • Select the affected account and tap Delete Account
  • Restart your iPhone
  • Re-add your account by going back to Accounts and tapping Add Account

7. Set Mail to Fetch Data More Frequently

  • Go to Settings > Mail > Accounts > Fetch New Data
  • Toggle Push ON (if supported)
  • Set your email account to Fetch, then choose how often (every 15 or 30 minutes is ideal)

8. Reset All Settings (Optional)

This won’t delete your data but will reset all settings.

  • Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset
  • Tap Reset All Settings

9. Factory Reset (Last Resort)

If nothing else works, you can erase your iPhone and set it up from scratch.

  • Back up your device to iCloud or iTunes first
  • Then go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone
  • Tap Erase All Content and Settings

After the reset, set up your email account again — but don’t restore apps or other email accounts right away, just to test the Mail app cleanly.

Still Not Working?

If you still can’t get emails:

  • Contact your email provider – They might be blocking access or need to reset your account
  • Call Apple Support – Especially if the issue started after an iOS update

One Comment

  1. Since iOS 11, Apple has disabled scheduled fetch and notifications for favorited folders and sub folders for non-push mail accounts like Yahoo in the native mail app of iOS.

This fetch used to happen in iOS 10.3.3 without any problem.
This issue has not been resolved even in the latest iOS 11.3 beta 1.
