iPhone 6 Won’t Connect to Wi-Fi After iOS Update? Here’s How to Fix It

If your iPhone 6 suddenly can’t connect to Wi-Fi after installing an iOS update, you’re not alone. Many users run into this frustrating issue after updating to a new version of iOS. Sometimes it’s a password error, other times the Wi-Fi simply refuses to connect. Either way, here are the most effective ways to troubleshoot and fix the problem.

1. Restart Your iPhone

A simple reboot can clear out temporary glitches that may have occurred during or after the update.

How to restart:

  • Hold the Power button until the slider appears
  • Drag the slider to power off
  • Wait a few seconds, then hold the Power button again to turn it back on

Or force restart:

  • Hold Power + Home at the same time until the Apple logo appears

2. Forget the Wi-Fi Network and Reconnect

The update might have corrupted the saved network configuration. Forgetting and rejoining can help.

Steps:

  • Go to Settings > Wi-Fi
  • Tap the i next to your network
  • Tap Forget This Network, then confirm
  • Restart your phone, go back to Wi-Fi, and reconnect using the correct password

3. Turn Off Wi-Fi Networking in Location Services

This doesn’t disable Wi-Fi—it just turns off location-based Wi-Fi scanning, which has caused connection problems for some users.

To disable:

  • Go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services
  • Scroll down and tap System Services
  • Turn off Wi-Fi Networking

4. Reset Network Settings

Resetting your iPhone’s network settings can often resolve post-update issues with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or cellular.

Steps:

  • Go to Settings > General > Reset (or Transfer or Reset iPhone)
  • Tap Reset Network Settings
  • Enter your passcode if prompted and confirm

Note: This will erase saved Wi-Fi networks and passwords.

5. Set a Custom DNS (Google or OpenDNS)

If the update caused DNS issues, switching to a public DNS might help you reconnect.

To change DNS:

  • Go to Settings > Wi-Fi
  • Tap the i next to your network
  • Scroll to Configure DNS, tap Manual
  • Remove old entries and enter:
    • Google DNS: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
    • Or OpenDNS: 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220

Save and test your connection again.

6. Restart Your Router/Modem

The issue may not be your iPhone at all. Power cycle your Wi-Fi equipment.

How to do it:

  • Unplug your router/modem for 30 seconds
  • Plug it back in and wait until the lights are stable
  • Restart your iPhone and reconnect

Still Not Working?

If none of these solutions fix the problem:

  • Make sure other devices can connect to the same Wi-Fi network
  • Try connecting your iPhone to a different Wi-Fi network
  • Contact your ISP to check for network issues
  • If all else fails, reach out to Apple Support—you may be dealing with a deeper iOS bug
