How to Eject Water from Apple Watch Series 4
The Apple Watch Series 4 is water-resistant up to 50 meters, which makes it ideal for swimming, showering, and everyday exposure to splashes. But when water gets inside the speaker grills, it can affect sound quality — and that’s where the water ejection feature comes in handy. Here’s how to use it.
Before You Begin: Know the Limits of Water Resistance
While the Apple Watch Series 4 is great for pool or open-water workouts, avoid exposing it to soaps, shampoos, lotions, or perfumes. These can weaken water seals and damage acoustic components over time.
How to Use Water Ejection on Apple Watch Series 4
If your watch gets wet — during a swim or after washing your hands — follow these steps to activate the Water Lock and eject water:
Step-by-Step Guide:
- Swipe up from the bottom of your watch face to open Control Center
- Find and tap the Water Lock icon (looks like a drop of water)
- A message will appear: “Turn Digital Crown to unlock and eject water”
- Rotate the Digital Crown until the watch beeps and vibrates slightly
💧 You’ll hear sounds and may feel tiny vibrations as the speaker pushes water out. If you’re wearing the watch, you might even feel droplets being expelled.
Tips for Keeping Your Watch Safe After Exposure to Water
- After swimming (especially in saltwater or chlorinated pools), rinse your Apple Watch under fresh tap water
- Use the Water Lock and ejection feature after every swim or shower
- Wipe your watch dry with a lint-free, non-abrasive cloth
Need Help?
If your Apple Watch’s speaker still sounds muffled after using the water ejection feature, or if you’re unsure whether the water resistance is still intact, don’t hesitate to reach out to Apple Support or visit an Apple Store.
