If you’re running out of space or just want to clean up your iPhone XS, deleting apps is a quick and easy way to do it. Whether it’s third-party apps, built-in Apple apps, or even stuck ones, here’s how to remove them — from the Home screen, Settings, or even through iTunes.
Delete Apps Directly from the Home Screen
This is the fastest and most common method.
- On your Home screen, lightly touch and hold any app icon until it jiggles.
- Tap the “X” that appears in the corner of the app.
- Tap Delete to confirm.
- Tap Done in the top-right corner when you’re finished.
Tip: If you press too firmly, you might trigger a menu instead — just tap outside of it and try again with a lighter touch.
Delete Apps Through iPhone Settings
If an app isn’t showing up or can’t be removed from the Home screen, use this method:
- Go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage.
- Scroll and tap the app you want to delete.
- Choose Delete App to remove it completely.
- Or tap Offload App to remove the app but keep its data for future use.
Delete Built-in Apple Apps (iOS 12 and Later)
Yes, you can now delete some of Apple’s own apps too.
- Just like third-party apps, press and hold the icon until it jiggles.
- Tap the “X” to remove it.
- Confirm by tapping Delete.
Keep in mind: This might affect related functions like Siri or Apple Watch syncing, depending on the app.
Restore a Built-in App You Deleted
Changed your mind? Here’s how to bring back an Apple app:
- Open the App Store.
- Type in the exact name of the app.
- Tap the cloud icon or Get to reinstall it.
Delete Apps via iTunes (Older macOS or Windows)
If your screen is unresponsive or the app won’t delete normally:
- Connect your iPhone XS to a computer with iTunes installed.
- Open iTunes and select your iPhone.
- Click Apps under Settings.
- On the visual Home screen layout, click the app you want to remove.
- Tap the X icon to delete it, then click Apply to confirm.
