How to Check AirPods Battery Life (With or Without the Case)

Want to know how much battery your AirPods have left? Whether you’re using an iPhone, iPad, Mac, or even an Android device, there are several easy ways to check your AirPods battery life — no need to guess. Here’s everything you need to know, including what the status light on the charging case means.

What the AirPods Charging Case Light Means

Your AirPods case has a tiny status light that gives you a quick idea of battery level:

  • Green Light: Fully charged (80–100%)
  • Yellow/Amber Light: Around 50% battery or less
  • No Light: Out of power — needs to be charged

Keep in mind: This light shows charging case battery status only, not the earbuds themselves.

Check AirPods Battery on iPhone or iPad

1. Automatic Pop-Up Window

  • Make sure Bluetooth is ON.
  • Place both AirPods in the case and open the lid.
  • Hold the case near your unlocked iPhone or iPad.
  • A battery status window will pop up showing the battery levels for each earbud and the case.

2. Using the Batteries Widget

This is the most convenient way to check your AirPods battery at any time, even without opening the case.

To add the widget:

  1. Long-press anywhere on your iPhone’s home screen.
  2. Tap the + icon (top-left or top-right depending on model).
  3. Scroll down and tap Batteries.
  4. Choose the style you want, then tap Add Widget.
  5. Tap Done to save it on your screen.

Once added, the widget will show battery levels of your iPhone, AirPods, and other connected Apple devices.

3. Ask Siri

Simply say:

  • “Hey Siri, what’s the battery level of my AirPods?”
  • Or: “How much battery do my AirPods have left?”

Siri will reply with the current battery level — perfect if you’re already wearing them.

Check AirPods Battery on a Mac

  1. Make sure your AirPods are connected to your Mac.
  2. Click the Control Center icon in the top-right menu bar.
  3. Click Bluetooth.
  4. Hover over or click your AirPods from the list to view the battery level for the case and both earbuds.

Check AirPods Battery on Android

While Android doesn’t support native AirPods battery checks, you can use third-party apps like:

  • AirBattery
  • MaterialPods
  • PodAir

These apps work best with:

  • AirPods Gen 1 & 2
  • AirPods Pro
  • Powerbeats Pro
  • Beats Solo 3
  • Beats Studio 3

Note: Some features (like checking the case’s battery) may not work reliably on all models.
