How to troubleshooting iPhone XR with Apple Music that’s not working

Before troubleshooting, verify and ensure that your Apple Music subscription is still active. This seems to be the most obvious factor to look into. To view and manage your Apple Music subscription, refer to these steps:

  1. Go to Settings-> [your name]-> iTunes & App Store menu.
  2. Select your Apple ID at the top of the screen, and then tap the option to View Apple ID. If necessary, sign in with the correct Apple ID.
  3. After signing in, scroll to Subscriptions and then tap on it.
  4. Select your Apple Music subscription.

If you don’t see it in the list, verify and ensure that you’re signed in with the same Apple ID with which you originally subscribed to Apple Music, the same Apple ID you use with Apple Music on your device. Otherwise, begin troubleshooting your iPhone XR with these methods.

First solution: Turn on iCloud Music Library then restart your iPhone.

iCloud Music Library allows you to access all the music files in your Library from Apple Music. If this feature isn’t turned on or enabled, you won’t be able to access the music library, hence you won’t be able to access music files through Apple Music. To enable iCloud Music Library on your iPhone XR, refer to these steps:

  1. From the Home screen, tap on Settings.
  2. Tap Music to view more options.
  3. Scroll down and toggle the iCloud Music library switch to turn the feature ON.

After enabling the feature, restart your phone to clear errant cache from the internal memory and to refresh Apple Music and relevant services. Here’s how:

  1. Press and hold the Side/Power button and either Volume buttons simultaneously for a few seconds.
  2. Release the buttons when the Slide to Power Off command appears and then drag the power off slider to the right.
  3. After 30 seconds, press and hold the Power/Side button again until the phone reboots.

Minor software errors that might have hindered Apple Music from working will also be cleared out by a system reboot. Creating backups won’t be necessary because this doesn’t affect any saved information on the phone.

Second solution: Sign out of your iCloud account and then sign in again.

Account-related issues can also trigger similar issues to occur and prevents Apple Music from carrying out its normal routine. Like any other accounts, these are likely just random glitches that could easily be dealt with by signing out and signing into your iCloud again. So here’s what you can try doing to rule out account-related errors:

  1. Tap Settings from the Home screen.
  2. Select iCloud.
  3. Tap on your iCloud account then select the option to Sign Out.
  4. Reboot your iPhone XR.
  5. Go back to your iCloud account settings and then tap the option to Sign In.

Wait until you’ve successfully signed into your iCloud account and then retry using Apple Music to see how it works.

Third solution: Update iOS to the latest version.

Should this be a system bug affecting Apple Music and relevant services, installing the latest iOS update will likely fix it. Apple typically rolls out new updates that contain fix patches to address various types of problems attributed to system bugs and malware. If your iPhone has stable Wi-Fi internet access, then follow these steps to check for new iOS update to download and install on your device:

  1. Tap Settings from the Home screen.
  2. Select General.
  3. Tap Software Update.
  4. If a new update is available, select the option to Download and Install. Then follow the rest of the onscreen prompts to implement the update completely.

For safekeeping, create a copy of your important files so you can just recover them later when needed.

After updating iOS, reboot your iPhone to ensure that all new system changes are properly implemented and likewise to prevent apps from glitching.

Fourth solution: Reset network settings on your iPhone XR.

Network problems are also among the underlying causes. Apple Music works by communicating with the Apple server to carry out requests and input processes. To make this happen, a stable Wi-Fi internet access is needed. If your iPhone is experiencing some network problems, then there’s a tendency for Apple Music to fail as it won’t be able to connect to the Apple server. And that’s when you need to deal with network-connectivity issues first. The quickest possible solution to network problems on an iPhone is a network settings reset. This clears out all your current network settings, wireless radios, APNs, server settings and other relevant information along with unwanted caches and errant data. Here’s how it works:

  1. Tap Settings from your Home screen.
  2. Select General.
  3. Scroll down to and tap on Reset.
  4. Select Reset network settings from the given options.
  5. If prompted, enter your device passcode to continue.
  6. Then tap the option to confirm.

After the reset, your iPhone restarts by itself and then loads the default network options and values. This means the need for you to set up and reconnect to your Wi-Fi network. Once your iPhone is connected, retry loading Apple Music and see if everything is working properly.

Fifth solution: Restore your iPhone XR to its factory defaults (factory reset).

This can be considered among the last options if Apple Music still failed to work after exhausting all prior solutions. There may be some more complex system errors that are interfering with Apple Music, barring it from carrying out its normal operation. To deal with major system issues like this, performing a factory reset or master reset on the phone would be necessary. But before you do so, back up all your critical data to iCloud or iTunes as they too will be deleted in the process. Once you’re done with the backup, instigate iOS reset with these steps:

  1. From the Home screen, tap on Settings.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Scroll down to and tap Reset.
  4. Select the option to Erase all content and settings.
  5. If prompted, enter your device passcode.
  6. Then tap the option to confirm full system reset.

Allow your device to finish resetting. Your phone will restart when the reset is done. Just wait until it finished booting up and then you can proceed with the initial device setup. At this point, be sure to enter the correct credentials for your iCloud and Apple Music account.
