How to Fix iPhone 12 Mini Lagging After iOS 14.4 Update

Is your iPhone 12 Mini suddenly lagging or freezing after installing the iOS 14.4 update? You’re not the only one. Performance issues like this can be frustrating, but the good news is that they’re usually easy to fix with a few basic steps.

Here’s what to do if your iPhone 12 Mini feels sluggish or unresponsive.

Close Background Apps and Force Restart

Sometimes too many apps running in the background can slow down your device. Start by clearing them and doing a quick memory refresh.

To close background apps:

  • Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and pause in the middle.
  • Swipe up on each app preview to force close them.

To force restart your iPhone:

  1. Press and quickly release the Volume Up button.
  2. Press and quickly release the Volume Down button.
  3. Press and hold the Side button until the Apple logo appears.

After your iPhone restarts, check if the lagging has stopped.

Reset All Settings

If the issue continues, it could be due to misconfigured or corrupted system settings after the update.

To reset all settings:

  • Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone.
  • Tap Reset > Reset All Settings.
  • Enter your passcode if prompted.
  • Tap Reset All Settings again to confirm.

This won’t delete your data, but it will reset system preferences like Wi-Fi networks, Bluetooth pairings, and display settings.

Factory Reset Your iPhone

If nothing else works, a factory reset may be necessary. This wipes everything from your device and restores it to a clean state—so back up your data first.

To perform a factory reset:

  • Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone.
  • Tap Erase All Content and Settings.
  • Tap Continue, then enter your passcode.
  • Enter your Apple ID password when prompted and tap Erase iPhone.

Once the reset is complete, set up your iPhone as new. The lag should be gone.
