This post shows how to enable the Silence Unknown Callers feature on the iPhone 12. Read on if you need help configuring your new iPhone to stop ringing for incoming phone calls from unknown numbers.
iOS 14 Silence Unknown Callers
Aside from blocking phone numbers, you can reduce interruptions from unknown callers by muting unknown numbers. In iOS devices, particularly those that are coming from unknown numbers can be muted by enabling a built-in feature that’s programmed to silence calls from unknown numbers. This feature is called Silence Unknown Callers. It is also another way to block spam calls on your iPhone.
When enabled, calls from unknown numbers will automatically be silenced and sent to voicemail. The call will likewise appear on the Recents list.
Other incoming calls from saved contacts or someone from your recent ongoing calls and Siri Suggestions won’t be affected.
In iOS 13 and later devices, the Silence Unknown Callers feature can be enabled straight from the Phone app’s settings menu.
Depicted in this quick walkthrough is the standard process of enabling the Silence Unknown Callers feature on the new iPhone 12.
Easy Steps to Turn on Silence Unknown Callers on iPhone 12
Before you begin, be sure to save all your important contacts on your phone so you won’t miss an important call from these people. Once you’ve got everything set, you may proceed with these steps.
1. First, unlock your iPhone to access the Home screen. While on the Home screen, tap the Settings icon. Doing so will load up the main settings menu on the next display.
The main settings menu highlights a long list of all iOS features and settings you can use and manage.
2. From the settings menu, scroll down to locate and then tap Phone.
The Phone app settings menu will load up on the next display. Here, you will see relevant settings and features you can use and manage.
3. Scroll down to the Call section. Then, tap Silence Unknown Callers.
On the next screen, you will see the Silence Unknown Callers switch.
4. To enable the feature, simply toggle the switch to turn it ON.
When the switch turns green, the feature is activated.
To see if it works, try calling your iPhone using a phone number that’s not saved on the device.
That call should be muted and sent to voicemail.
Other Ways to Block Unknown or Spam Callers
The Silence Unknown Callers feature will be temporarily disabled for the next 24 hours if an emergency call is placed. This is to make your iPhone reachable.
Aside from the built-in feature, you can also mute or block spam calls from unknown numbers using a third-party app from the App Store. Just search for and download an app that detects and blocks spam phone calls and then install it on your device.
After installing the app, go to Settings-> Phone-> Call Blocking & Identification menu. Navigate to the section that’s labeled with Allow These Apps To Block Calls And Provide Caller ID. Then, toggle the switch to turn on the application.
Should you wish to stop blocking or muting unknown callers, simply disable the Silence Unknown Callers switch on the Phone app settings. If you’re using a third-party spam blocker, then you will need to disable the app instead.
Hope this helps!
