No Sound On iPhone 12? Here are some ways to fix it

In this troubleshooting guide, we will show you what to do if there’s no sound on iPhone 12 after just a few weeks of use. Most of the time, such a problem is just due to a setting or two, provided that your device did not incur any physical or liquid damage. Read on to learn more.

If a high-end device like the iPhone 12 lost its audio for some reason, it’s possible that it’s a hardware problem. However, there are several factors you have to consider before you can actually conclude it’s a problem with its speaker or something else. We will help you rule out the possibilities in this video. With that being said, here are the things you can do:

First solution: Disable Bluetooth

The first thing you have to do is make sure the sound is not channeled through other devices such as Bluetooth speakers and headsets. So if you’ve connected your iPhone 12 with any Bluetooth device, make sure the service is disabled before you continue troubleshooting.

You may open Settings and tap Bluetooth, or simply pull the Control Center down and disable it from there. With Bluetooth disabled, the sound should be played through your device’s speakers.

Second solution: Make sure your iPhone is not set in Silent mode

It is also possible that your iPhone 12 is muted, considering the fact that the ringer switch can easily be flipped. So rule out this possibility next by simply flipping the switch on the left side of your device.

If it says that Silent Mode is enabled after you flip the switch, then flip it again to disable it back. It should be disabled while you’re troubleshooting this problem. Also, turn the volume all the way up, at least, while you’re troubleshooting your phone.

Third solution: Force restart your iPhone

After making sure that your device is not muted and that the audio is not channeled through other devices, you have to try refreshing its memory.

There are times when the minor firmware glitches will result in this problem.

  1. To do so, quickly press and release the Volume Up button and then the Volume Down button.
  2. Immediately after that, press and hold the Power key for 10 seconds. This will trigger your iPhone to shut down and power back up.
  3. When the logo shows, release the power key and wait until the reboot is finished.

If your iPhone still has no audio after this, then try the next solution.

Fourth solution: Check Sounds and Haptics

At this point, it’s best to test the speaker of your iPhone. This is for you to find out if the problem is the hardware or note.

  1. Launch Settings, and then tap Sounds and Haptics.
  2. Drag the Ringer and Alerts slider back and forth a few times, as you do so, your iPhone will play an audio.
  3. Drag the slider all the way to the right. If there’s a sound, then the speaker is fine, otherwise, it might need service.

If it’s an issue with the speaker, then apparently you can use a headset so that you can continue using your iPhone 12 with its audio. You may use the headsets of the previous iPhone models or you can use any Bluetooth headset.

Fifth solution: Turn off Do Not Disturb

Assuming that the speakers are working on your iPhone and yet it doesn’t sound off when notifications are received, then it must be the Do Not Disturb feature that silenced your device. You have to disable it to regain your device’s audio.

  1. Launch Settings and then tap Do Not Disturb.
  2. Now tap the Switch to disable it.

The problem should be fixed by now, especially if it’s the DND feature that caused it.

Sixth solution: Reset all Settings on your iPhone

After doing the previous solutions and your iPhone 12 still doesn’t sound off, then it’s time to troubleshoot the firmware. What you have to do next is to reset the settings of your device to bring all configuration back to their default values. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. From the Home screen, tap Settings.
  2. Find and tap General.
  3. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen, and then touch Reset.
  4. Touch Reset All Settings.
  5. If prompted, enter your security lock.
  6. Tap Reset All Settings at the bottom of the screen, and then tap Reset All Settings again to confirm.

After the reboot, try to see if the problem is fixed.

Seventh solution: Factory reset your iPhone

A factory reset should be done if the problem isn’t fixed with the previous solution. If it’s just a firmware issue, then it should be enough to fix it. But before you do that, make sure to backup your important files and data as they will be deleted. When ready, follow these steps to reset your iPhone:
From the Home screen, tap Settings.

  1. Find and tap General.
  2. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen, and then touch Reset.
  3. Tap Erase All Contents and Settings.
  4. Tap Erase Now.
  5. If prompted, enter your security lock.
  6. Tap Erase iPhone at the bottom of the screen.
  7. Tap Erase iPhone again to proceed.
  8. Now enter your Apple ID password, and then tap Erase to proceed with the reset.
  9. Wait until your iPhone has finished the reset, and then set it up as a new device.

After the set up and your iPhone 12 still doesn’t have audio, then set up an appointment at the Genius bar because the problem can be with the hardware.

And that’s what you have to do if there’s no sound on iPhone 12. We hope that this guide can help you one way or the other.
