How To Lock Notes on MacBook And Protect Them From Anyone

Apple’s Notes app is one of the best ways to store information. Aside from the fact that it’s interface is quite simple and straightforward, it can cater to texts and media files. But for me, the most important thing is you’ll be able to lock notes on MacBook, so that others won’t be able to access them, especially if they’re important or personal.

This feature will especially be useful important to students and researchers who want to protect their notes and findings. Once the note is locked, you will have a couple of options to unlock it. Either you use the password, or your fingerprint.

In this post, I will be showing you how to lock notes on your MacBook to hide your contents or protect it from anyone.

How To Password Protect Notes On Your MacBook

Time Needed : 3 minutes

Password-protecting notes on a Mac is pretty straightforward. Such a security feature is in the Notes app itself.

  1. To begin, open the Launchpad and open Notes.

If it’s the first time you use the app, you may be prompted with some information about it. Just hit Continue.

  3. Now Lock your Note.

Once you’re ready to secure your content, click the Lock button in the toolbar of the Notes app.

Click Lock Note and you’ll be prompted to create a password for it. You can use a different password for your note (different from the one you use to login) but if you’ve set up your fingerprint to unlock your MacBook, you can also unlock the note with it.

Type in the Password you want to use, and then type it in again in the field below to confirm.

If you want, you can type in your hint just in case you forget the password.

After setting up the password, close your note for the password to activate. The next time you open it, you will be prompted to enter your password, or use your fingerprint to unlock it.

And that’s how you lock notes on MacBook, or any Mac device for that matter. What you have to remember is that you have to close your notes after you read them to re-activate the lock. Closing the lid of your MacBook won’t close your notes and by the time you open it back, your notes will still be opened.

To make sure you close the Notes app, click and hold on its icon on the dock and then click Quit. That will close the app itself and when you open it back, you will be prompted to enter your password or use your fingerprint to unlock it.

Lastly, you will also be able to lock or hide your photos using the Notes app. It’s pretty much the same process to do so. The Notes app is very useful depending on what purpose you use it for.

I hope that we’ve been able to help you with this simple tutorial.
