Problem #1: How to fix iPhone XS wifi issue: unable to connect to wifi after backup restore

I have a new iPhone XS and I have restored my backup from a previous iPhone 7.  After restoration, my iPhone XS with IOS 12 is unable to connect to WiFi. The WiFi antenna at control center is greyed out with a dash sign, and upon enabling, it turned blue for a few seconds to a min before it greyed out again. The WiFi button in Settings cannot be enabled and is greyed out or showing white button. Cannot toggle to green button to turn on WiFi.

I have called Apple Center and turned in my iPhone Xs for a replacement unit. However, my new and replaced unit is also demonstrating the same behaviour. I cannot enabled or turned on WifFi setting. At unpredictable time, it may just connect by itself to my previous wifi SSID, but will dropped off by itself. I am not able to select any wifi network.

I troubleshooted myself and find that I can setup the iPhone XS as a new phone and the wifi connection works fine – both at the control center and settings. I can turn on/off blue or green without an issue. The problem only exists when I restored from my old backup on iPhone 7. My iPhone 7 – still with me is able to connect to any wifi router/ssid without any issues.  I called Apple Center and they are unable to help. The latest iOS 12.0.1 upgrade which they also recommended does not help.

I am lost since the worst case is to build it as a new iPhone and I will lose all my data – especially photos and all login credentials from my apps, etc.  I have 52GB of photos and videos. They recommended me to use iCloud to restore, but there is no guarantee it will work. Pls advise if you have a solution. Thanks.

Solution: Your backup must have developed a bug that gets triggered after you restore it in your new iPhone XS. What this bug is may remain a mystery since there’s no way to know where the problem lies. It can be coming from one of the apps, configurations, files, etc. There’s no troubleshooting tool that we can use to scan the backup file and check it for bugs. The general rule is to restore it and hope for the best. If a problem develops from that particular backup, then you have to dump it.

We don’t think restoring it thru iCloud will help but you can give it a try. The most likely result is you having the same problem afterwards but at this point, anything is worth trying.

Another possible solution to your problem is to continue using the backup and resetting the phone’s network settings afterwards. Here’s what you need to do exactly:

  1. Restore the backup to your iPhone XS.
  2. Clear the network settings with these steps:
    • Tap Settings from the Home screen.
    • Next, tap General.
    • Scroll down to and then tap on Reset.
    • Tap Reset network settings.
    • Enter the passcode for your iPhone to continue.
    • Then tap the option to confirm network settings reset.
    • Try to connect to your wifi network again and see what happens.

Problem #2: How to fix iPhone XS camera issue: camera stops working after an update

Hello. After i installed ios12 my camera does not work anymore. it is just black screen. On facetime, snapchat on all my apps, camera is not working.

Solution: Try to perform a soft reset first. The importance of a soft reset is often realized when dealing with random software issues from rogue apps or minor data corruption on the phone. It also helps dump cache and temporary files from the phone’s internal memory for faster and smoother performance. And here’s how a soft reset is done on your iPhone XS Max:

  1. Press and hold both the Power button and the Volume Up button for a few seconds.
  2. Release both the buttons when the Slide to Power Off icon appears. Doing so will turn off the phone.
  3. After about 30 seconds, press and hold the Power button on the side of your phone until it restarts.
  4. When asked, enter your device PIN or passcode then tap OK to access the Home screen and start using your phone again.

If a soft reset won’t work, the next good thing to do is to reset your iPhone’s settings and see if there’s any difference. Here’s how:

  1. Tap to open the Settings app.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Scroll to and then tap Reset.
  4. Select Reset all settings from the menu options.
  5. If prompted, enter the correct passcode for your iPhone.
  6. Then tap the option to confirm settings reset.

Should the problem return after resetting all settings, we suggest that you wipe the phone by doing a factory reset. This reset is often needed when dealing with major software issues from tough bugs, malware and fatal system errors. Like other iOS devices, a factory reset on the iPhone XS Max can be carried out through settings or using iTunes. The following steps depict a factory reset through your iPhone XS settings menu:

  1. Create a backup of your personal data.
  2. From the Home screen, tap Settings.
  3. Then tap General.
  4. Scroll down to then tap on Reset.
  5. Select the option to Erase all content and settings.
  6. Enter the correct passcode for your device.
  7. Then tap the option to confirm factory reset.

Problem #3: How to fix iPhone XS Facebook app that keeps crashing

Facebook keeps crashing on my new iPhone XS. I have already reinstalled the app 20 times, even completely reboot my iPhone and iCloud and it hasn’t fixed it. What can be done now?

Solution: If you’re having an issue with Facebook app only, it’s probably an app coding issue. We suggest that you contact Facebook developer and report this bug.

If you are on Facebook’s beta version program, try to leave beta and use the standard app. If that won’t work either, report the problem to Facebook.

Problem #4: iPhone XS apps keep crashing after setup

Hey, I newly got myself an IPhone XS because my old iPhone 6s battery life was getting worse and some apps (google, Instagram, Spotify, some game apps) would keep crashing when I tried to open use them. Well I transferred all my data to my new iPhone XS and reset my old IPhone 6s to give it to a friend. The iPhone 6s is now perfectly fine (apps don’t crash), but on my new phone the same apps keep crashing. When I try to start them, the loading screen appears for a few seconds and I’m back on the home screen. When I’m lucky I only have to click on it 2-4 times, after clearing them out of my history. But sometimes they won’t load even after I turn my phone on and off again. I don’t want to reset my phone completely, so is there another way to fix this? Thank you for your help!

Solution: You can delete the apps in question from your iphone x and reinstall them straight from the App Store. If that won’t help, we’re afraid you need to reset the phone completely (factory reset). Refer to the steps above on how to do it.
