Hello iPhone fans! This troubleshooting article will answer some questions for the iPhone X (#iPhoneX). As usual, the cases mentioned below are taken from reports we received from some iPhone users over the last few days. Problem #1: How to find missing Tones in your iPhone X, Phone app keeps crashing and won’t work
Ok 1st issue I’m having is the text tone going back to default. I tried going step by step what you said to do but I don’t have a option to go into view my account. When I hit the more button it opens up to Tones, Genius, Purchased, and Downloads. I click on tones and it’s like I’m searching for a new tone. I click on purchased and it says music, movies, and tv shows. Nothing like what your saying to do. So that’s my first problem.
2nd problem I’m having is when I click on the green phone (contacts or people you’ve called or they’ve called you) icon, when I want to scroll thru contacts or click on a recent call, it won’t let me do anything. Doesn’t recognize that I’m even touching the screen. I did notice that if I turn my phone off and then back on it fixes the problem for about a hr. Then it’s back to the that way. I’ve tried calling apple and they just give me the run around saying that’s it’s gotten wet or it damaged. Let me assure you my phones never been wet nor has it been damaged. Phone still looks brand new.
Solution: First, you want to make sure that you are signed in to the correct account. If you have multiple Apple accounts, it’s possible that your missing tones may be associated with a different account.
If you are positive that you have the right account signed in currently, you can head over to Settings > Sounds & Haptics > Ringtone > Download App Purchased Tones. This will allow you download all ringtones for your account. Once the download is finished tap the sound that you want to change under Settings > Sounds & Haptics > Ringtone. You can change your Ringtone, Text Tone, New Mail sound, Calendar Alerts, and more. Just tap on the name of a ringtone or alert tone to hear it play and set it as the new sound.
You can also set a Ringtone or Text Tone for a specific contact. Find the person in the Contacts app, then tap Edit in the upper-right corner. Tap Ringtone or Text Tone and choose a new sound.
For your second concern, the Phone app may have encountered an error that iOS can’t resolve. To resolve it, these are the troubleshooting steps to try:
Force close the app
Some bugs are easily fixed by simply force stopping them. To do that, follow these steps:
- From the Home screen, swipe up from the bottom-left corner of the screen and pause slightly in the middle of the screen.
- Swipe right or left to find the app that you want to close.
- Swipe up on the app’s preview to close the app.
Reset all settings
If force stopping Phone app won’t work, the next step would be to reset your iPhone’s settings. Here’s how:
- From the Home screen, go to Settings>General>Reset.
- Tap Reset All Settings.
- If presented, enter the passcode.
- Tap Reset All Settings to confirm.
It may take some moments for the reset to complete so just let the phone finish the job.
If you reset all the settings, you are basically just forcing the phone to delete customizations that happen after it was unboxed. This process won’t delete your personal data such as photos, videos, etc. so it can be done safely. We still recommend that you back everything up though before doing it.
Problem #2: iPhone X won’t turn on after battery and charging port replacement
Hi. I have an iPhone X and it has suddenly shuts down. A few months ago we had a bad power outage and my phone completely died and when I tried to plug it in it would show the apple indicator, and it wouldn’t show my home screen. I went and had the battery, and charging port replaced. And it has came to my attention that a little piece that the battery connector connects to has been broken off. But that was when they replaced my battery, I tried force restarting it. Doing the iTunes thing and nothing has worked it is still unresponsive. It worked just fine but it over heated quite often. And now it just won’t work at all no matter how long I keep it on my charger. I need my iPhone back please help!
Solution: If your iPhone X does not charge and hence, won’t turn on at all, there’ nothing much that you can do. It clearly has a hardware issue so doing software troubleshooting on it is impossible. We suggest that you send it in for repair so you can get advise what to do next. The least that could happen now is a technician running hardware tests and repairing damaged parts. If the problem is worse than a broken battery or charging port, a motherboard replacement may be recommended. This is impractical and very expensive so you’ll be better off with a new device. If money is not an issue, we recommend that you simply have the phone replaced.
Problem #3: iPhone X microphone won’t work during calls, calls drop randomly
My iPhone X has been having microphone issues for the past few months. I got the phone in July brand new and shouldn’t be having these issues. When I’m in the middle of a call the person on the other end can’t hear me but I can hear them. And then there are times my calls just drop for no reason. My husband has an iPhone 6 and has zero problems. Same software and same network.
Solution: The most likely reason for your problem is account-issue or poor network service. We suggest that you work with your network operator to narrow down the variables in this case.
As far as device troubleshooting is concerned, there are two things that you would like to do. You can do them before contacting your network operator. First, try to clear your phone’s network settings. Here’s how:
- Tap Settings to open the app.
- Tap General.
- Tap Reset.
- Select the option to Reset Network Settings.
- If prompted, enter the device password.
- Confirm action.
Secondly, you want to wipe the phone and return all its software information to their defaults if clearing network settings won’t help. Be sure to set your iPhone X as a new device so you can replicate the issue when there’s no added app in the system. To factory reset your iPhone X:
- Open Settings app.
- Tap General.
- Tap Reset.
- Tap Erase All Content and Settings.
- If prompted, enter your passcode.
- Tap Erase iPhone.
Remember, there’s only so much that you can do in this case. If the problem happens after a factory reset, even when there are no apps installed, contact your network operator and get help from them.
Problem #4: How to fix an iPhone X that won’t turn on
Hi. my iphone has been doing weird stuff 1st of all at the 8th day i bought it, its gone recovery mode on its own. then i restored it with itunes on my pc and its begin to work so good after…. then it’s dead again. i forced it to start by the volume up and volume down and power buttons and put it on charger then it worked really good…. then i figured out i have to do that every time i want to turn it on. it have been okay to at least it is working good…. after 3 weeks of doing this… i wanted to make a call my iphone told me call failed. i looked at the network state found it saying no signal. i restarted my iphone it’s saying searching and searching… for hours… and once i was restarting my iphone with the power button i found out that my iphone’s power button don’t want to respond to my click.
i took my sim card out and left the phone… after couple of hours the phone screen was black. my phone is not charging and it have a dead power button and now i have a piece metal cost me 16,000 Egyptian pounds. and i’ve sold my dear camera and have been saving money for 11 months to buy it and now it’s totally dead… can you help me please?
Solution: It’s not possible for us to know the exact reason why your iPhone X behaves this way but there are a few basic troubleshooting steps that you can try.
Charge for an hour
First, it’s possible that the battery may have reached 0%. Make sure that you leave it charged for at least 1 hour before you attempt to power it back on.
Use a different set of charging cable and adapter
If charging for 1 hour won’t work and the phone is still unresponsive, the next step is to try another charging cable and adapter. There may be a problem with your charging accessories so make sure to try to use another official iPhone X cable and adapter to check. If you can’t find a known working charging cable and adapter, visit your local Apple Store and use their accessories.
Use wireless charging
Should nothing work at this time, the next thing that you want to find out is if there’s a problem with the charging port. To do that, you want to charge your iPhone wirelessly. Again, if you don’t have an official wireless charger, try to go to an Apple Store so you can try their own. Charge the phone for at least 1 hour. If your iPhone X charges wirelessly, that means that the micro USB charging port may had been damaged. In this case, you want to send the phone for repair.
If your iPhone remains dead or unresponsive and won’t charge wirelessly, that means the issue is not fixable on your end. This can be due to a bad battery or a motherboard problem. No software troubleshooting can help you in this case so forget about fixing it yourself. We suggest that you send it in so Apple can repair or replace it.
