Freezes and lags occur every now and then, but they’re not really that serious. So even if your iPhone SE 2 starts to keep freezing, you can still rest assured that such a problem can be fixed by doing the basic troubleshooting procedures.

Performance issues are among the most common problems you may encounter even if you’re an Apple user. But based on our experience, such problems can be easily fixed and you will have your iPhone SE 2 running perfectly again in no time.

If you’re one of the users who have encountered this problem after the iOS 14 update, then continue reading below and see which of the procedures work for you.

Close Apps and then Force Restart your iPhone

There are times when there are already a lot of applications running in the background that your iPhone SE 2’s performance drops. If this is the case with your iPhone, then you can fix it by simply closing all applications running in the background and refreshing the memory. You simply have to force restart your iPhone and that might just help. Here’s how…

  1. Double-press the Home button. This will show you the app previews.
  2. Now, swipe up on the previews to close them.
  3. To force restart your iPhone, quickly press and release the Volume up button, and then do the same for the Volume down button. The moment you release the volume down button, press and hold the Power key for 15 seconds or until the Apple logo shows.
  4. Now wait for your iPhone to finish restarting.

Once the reboot is finished, try to see if your iPhone SE still lags and freezes.

Check your iPhone’s Storage and for a new update

If your device is running low on storage space, it will affect its performance. Your iPhone makes caches every time an app or service is used, and remember, there are hundreds of them running in the background. But aside from that, the problem can also be with the firmware, so it’s better to also check for a new update and install it if possible. This is how you do those things…

  1. From the Home screen, tap Settings.
  2. Find and tap General.
  3. Touch iPhone Storage and check if there’s enough storage. If you only have around 2 GB, then delete some of your files to free up some space.
  4. Go back to the previous screen, and then touch Software Update. If there’s an update available, then download and install it.

After making sure that your Apple iPhone has enough storage space and that it’s firmware is updated, and yet it’s performance is still poor, then move on to the next solution.

Reset all the settings on your iPhone

If the first solution failed to fix the problem, then what you need to do is to reset all settings on your iPhone, to make sure the performance issue isn’t due to some inappropriate settings. This is how it’s done:

  1. From the Home screen, tap Settings.
  2. Find and tap General.
  3. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen, and then touch Reset.
  4. Touch Reset All Settings.
  5. If prompted, enter your security lock.
  6. Tap Reset All Settings at the bottom of the screen, and then tap Reset All Settings again to confirm.

Your iPhone will reboot after this, once it has finished rebooting, try to use the iPhone as you normally would to see if the performance has returned to normal.

Factory reset your iPhone

If the previous procedures failed to fix the problem, then you are most likely dealing with some major iOS flaw that requires a more advanced solution. In this case, your remaining options would be a factory reset and iOS restore.

  1. From the Home screen, tap Settings.
  2. Find and tap General.
  3. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen, and then touch Reset.
  4. Tap Erase All Contents and Settings.
  5. Tap Erase Now.
  6. If prompted, enter your security lock.
  7. Tap Erase iPhone at the bottom of the screen.
  8. Tap Erase iPhone again to proceed.
  9. Enter your Apple ID password and then tap Reset.
  10. Wait until your iPhone has finished the reset, and then set it up as a new device.

So basically, these are the solutions that may help you fix your iPhone that started to keep freezing after the iOS 14 update. Most of the time, doing the force restart is enough to make things get back to normal but if that doesn’t work, then you have to use other solutions. Or use Apple’s tech support.
