How To Fix the iPhone SE 2 Ghost Touch Issue After iOS 14

A ghost touch issue is seems to be bugging some owners of the iPhone SE 2 and it reportedly started after the iOS 14 update. You would know if your device has it because it will execute some touch commands you did not initialize, or launch some apps you did not open. Other users reported that their device just skip from one screen to the other without touching them.

The ghost touch problem can disrupt the operation of your device. For instance, if you’re typing a text message and it ghost touches, the messaging app might close on its own, or other apps may launch and you couldn’t do what you need to do. If you’re listening to music or watching a video, your iPhone may stop the track or pause the video and that would be very annoying.

So, in this post, we will guide you on how to troubleshoot your iPhone SE 2 that’s bugged by a ghost touch problem. We will show you a few troubleshooting procedures you can use to try and get rid of the ghost touches, or learn more about the reason why such a problem occurs. Continue reading as we may be able to help you one way or the other.

First solution: Force restart your iPhone

The iPhone ghost touch issue might be due to a pretty minor firmware-related problem, especially if it started without apparent reason or cause after a firmware update. If this is the case with your iPhone SE, then the first thing that you have to do is to see if it disappears once you refresh the memory.

Try doing the forced restart to reload all apps and services running in the background as well as refresh the memory of your phone. Most of the time, this is the only things you have to do fix a concern like this. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. Quickly press and release the Volume Up button and then the Volume Down button.
  2. Immediately after that, press and hold the Power button for 10 seconds. This will trigger your iPhone to shut down and power back up.
  3. Once you see the Apple logo on the screen, release the side button and wait until your iPhone finishes the reboot.

When the reboot is complete, try using your phone and see if the ghost touch is fixed.

Second solution: Remove the screen protector

This, of course, is optional and it actually depends on your judgment whether to leave the screen bare or protected. If your iPhone SE already has the screen protector (third-party or not) since day 1 and you’ve been able to use it without an issue until recently, then it’s probably not due to the screen protector.

However, if the touch screen started to go crazy shortly after putting on a new screen protector, then it’s possible that it’s causing the ghost touch issues, and with that, you have to remove it so that the problem will be fixed. The same goes if the screen protector isn’t clear anymore and has some scratches on it.

Third solution: Clean the screen

Assuming your iPhone SE 2 doesn’t have a screen protector, what you have to do instead is make sure the display is clean and free of smudges.

Use a clean, dry cloth to wipe the display gently. If you need to, try using a small amount of alcohol to remove the smudges and other substances that may have stuck on the screen. If this doesn’t help, then try the next solution.

Fourth solution: Close background apps

After doing the first few solutions above and your phone still acts on its own, then try to fix it by closing all the applications that run in the background, regardless of whether they’re third-party apps or not.

  1. Double-press the Home button to view recently used apps.
  2. Swipe up on each preview to close the apps one by one.

After closing them and your iPhone still has the display glitches, then try the next solution.

Fifth solution: Reset all the settings on your iPhone

The next thing that you have to do if the issue continues to bug your iPhone is to reset all the settings. It almost has the same effects as the factory reset but none of your files and data will be deleted. When it comes to effectiveness, as long as this problem is on the software side, it should be able to fix it. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. From the Home screen, tap Settings.
  2. Find and tap General.
  3. Scroll down and tap the Reset button.
  4. Tap Reset all settings, and if prompted, enter your security lock.
  5. Tap the Reset settings button and then confirm it.

If this doesn’t fix the ghost touch issue, then try the next solution.

Sixth solution: Reset your iPhone

A factory reset will be able to fix it as long as it’s a firmware-related problem. But if there is also an available update, try downloading and installing it first. Sometimes issues like this gets fixed by Apple through new updates. Also, you may restore your iPhone via iTunes should the data reset fail. Now, prior to the factory reset, make sure to create a backup of your important files and data. When ready, follow these steps:

  1. From the Home screen, tap Settings.
  2. Find and tap General.
  3. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen, and then touch Reset.
  4. Tap Erase All Content and Settings.
  5. Tap Erase Now.
  6. If prompted, enter your security lock.
  7. Tap Erase iPhone at the bottom of the screen.
  8. Tap Erase iPhone again to proceed with the reset.
  9. Enter your Apple ID password, and then touch Erase to proceed with the reset.

After this and your phone still has some issues with its display, then get your iPhone checked by an Apple technician. You may have to set up an appointment at the Genius Bar for it.

I hope that this troubleshooting guide has been able to help you fix the iPhone SE 2 ghost touch issue.
