iPhone Notifications Stopped Working After iOS 14

In this troubleshooting guide, you will learn what to do if iPhone notifications stopped working after the device is updated to iOS 14 and understand why such a problem occurs every now and then.

By default, notifications are set to work properly on your iPhone regardless of the iOS or firmware version it’s running on. However, it seems like some owners have started to encounter problems with iPhone notifications shortly after they’ve updated their devices to iOS 14.

It may seem like the problem is caused by the new update but more often than not, it’s just due to a pretty minor issue or setting. That’s why you have to take a little of your time in troubleshooting your iPhone that has this kind of problem as you may be able to fix it easily.

So in this post, we will show you the things that you need to do to try and fix your iPhone that no longer notifies you when messages and other notifications come in. Continue reading as we may be able to help you one way or the other.

First solution: Try Doing the Forced Restart

The first thing you have to do is to perform the forced restart, because it’s always possible that this is just due to a minor firmware-related issue or even a glitch. Glitches happen all the time and they often leave an impression that the problem is serious but in reality, all you need to do is the forced restart. Doing so will refresh the memory of your device as well as reload all apps and services. So here’s what you need to do:

  1. Quickly press and release the Volume Up button, and then the Volume Down button.
  2. Immediately after that, press and hold the Power key for 10 seconds. This will trigger your iPhone to shut down and power back up.
  3. Once the logo shows, release the power key and wait until the device has finished rebooting.

When the reboot is complete, try to see if the notifications are now working. If this doesn’t fix the problem, then move on to the next solution.

Second solution: Make sure Silent Mode is not Enabled

The possibility that the silent mode was enabled is high because your device has a physical ringer switch. You may have accidentally enabled silent mode that’s why iPhone notifications aren’t working on your device.

So toggle the ringer switch and while doing it, look at the screen to know if silent mode is enabled or disabled.

If it says silent mode is enabled, then flip the switch back to disable it. However, if it says disabled, then leave it that way and iPhone notifications should be working properly now.

But if the problem continues regardless of whether silent mode is enabled or disabled, then move on to the next solution.

Third solution: Reset all the settings on your iPhone

If the first and second solutions didn’t fix the problem, then bring your iPhone back to its factory settings or default configuration, by resetting all the settings. This is one of the most effective solutions against firmware-related problems that occurred without apparent reason. You don’t have to worry though as none of your files and data will be delete. This is how you do it:

  1. From the Home screen, tap Settings.
  2. Find and tap General.
  3. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen, and then touch Reset.
  4. Touch Reset All Settings.
  5. If prompted, enter your security lock.
  6. Tap Reset All Settings at the bottom of the screen, and then tap Reset All Settings again to confirm.

Your iPhone will reboot after this, once it has finished rebooting, try to see if your iPhone notifications now work properly.

Fourth solution: Factory reset your iPhone

If the notifications are still not working even after the previous solution, then it’s time to reset your iPhone. A reset should be able to fix this problem, but before you actually do that, make sure to create a backup of your important files as they will be deleted. When ready, follow these steps to reset your iPhone:

  1. From the Home screen, tap Settings.
  2. Find and tap General.
  3. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen, and then touch Reset.
  4. Tap Erase All Contents and Settings.
  5. Tap Erase Now.
  6. If prompted, enter your security lock.
  7. Tap Erase iPhone at the bottom of the screen.
  8. Tap Erase iPhone again to proceed.
  9. Now enter your Apple ID password, and then tap Erase to proceed with the reset.

Wait until your iPhone has finished the reset, and then set it up as a new device. After the reset, try to see if if the notifications are now working properly.
