Below are specific topics we’re bringing for you today:

Problem 1: iPhone 7 no voice during calls, microphone not working

I received my replacement iPhone and made calls and no one can hear me. They say it’s static can not hear me. I have no static and I can hear them. I am unable to call anyone that can hear me. Tech support said maybe weather but my whole family has Verizon and no one else is having issues, just my replacement phone. And I know that is not the issue.

I have done all the necessary options. They said to try reset, erase reset, take SIM out etc. So I need help ASAP this is Sunday August 27 2017 and received replacement phone on Friday August 25. Paid 200.00 with insurance and I still have a phone that does not work. my phone before was dropped and cracked screen but I am unable to make a call out for static in replacement phone. — Territidbits

Solution: Hi Territidbits. If your replacement iPhone 7 remains problematic after doing these steps,

  1. Open Settings app.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Tap Reset.
  4. Tap Erase All Content and Settings.
  5. If prompted, enter your passcode.
  6. Tap Erase iPhone.

then there must be a hardware malfunction behind it. We don’t think you received a brand new replacement device so it’s possible that its microphone may be broken. You may be provided with a fully working iPhone except that its microphone is malfunctioning. In a lot of cases, replacement phones sent to customers are really just refurbished devices that were previously sent to be fixed. Your original phone, if it can still be repaired, will most probably end up with another user somewhere and the one you have with you must had been sent in to be fixed as well. While replacement phones usually end up working properly, some of them may still have an undiagnosed problems when provided to an unsuspecting user.

To check if your phone’s microphone is not working, try to see if you can record your voice or any sound using the built-in Voice Memos app. Here’s how:

  1. Find the Voice Memos app and open it.
  2. Tap the record button to let your iPhone’s microphone capture any sound. We suggest that you try to record your voice as if you’re simulating a call.
  3. When done recording, tap the red record button again.
  4. Tap Done.
  5. Name the recorded sound with anything you like.
  6. Now that you have saved it, try to tap on the file and listen to it. If you hear nothing or simply static, you can bet the microphone is not working. In this case, you have to return your phone and demand for a new one.

In case you can hear your voice clearly though, that suggests that the problem is network-related. This means that your carrier is having a hard time transmitting your voice during calls. Whatever the reason for that, it’s their technical support team that should help you identify it. Make sure that you let your carrier know about the issue.

Problem 2: iPhone 7 voice calling sound is problematic, cannot hear callers, caller cannot hear calls

Call quality. Callers either cannot hear me or I cannot hear them. It does not matter where I am when this happens. I can be using wifi calling from my home or someone can be calling me from a landline. The connection is terrible. The sound is intermittent and distorted, stattacato and broken. Basically the phone is unusable for phone calls. Sprint is my provider. — Becky

Solution: Hi Becky. An issue like this can be caused by anything so you want to make sure that you cover all bases on your end before you eventually ask intervention from your carrier.

Make sure that iPhone volume is turn all the way up. While trying to simulate a call, adjust the volume in your phone to max. make sure that you can see the volume indicator on the screen when doing this.

Disconnect headset and check the headset jack. This is an optional troubleshooting if the problem occurs only when using a headset. Naturally, the phone’s speaker won’t work when a headset is connected, or if you enabled Bluetooth headset. If you are using a headset, make sure to disconnect it before testing if the speaker is working. Also, ensure that there’s nothing inside the headphone jack. Sometimes, the jack connector can get shorted if there’s something inside. Try to blow inside the jack to minimize dust.

If you have a Bluetooth headset, make sure to turn off Bluetooth before testing how volume works during calls.

Check the speaker. In some cases, an iPhone’s speaker fails to work properly if it’s blocked or covered in dirt. If you tend to go outside with your phone, you can try to do the following to clear the speaker:

  1. Remove any cover casing or screen that may block sound from the speaker.
  2. Like in headset jack, you want to make sure that the speaker hole is not blocked or dirty. Consider to gently clean the speaker area with soft cloth or soft-bristled brush. Don’t apply any liquid on the speaker area.
  3. While in a call, try using the speakerphone to check call quality. Call as many contacts if possible in multiple locations. If the same problem occurs, the most likely reason is network-related. In this case, you’ll want to let your carrier know so they can help you narrow down the possible causes on their end.

Check how your iPhone’s microphone and speakerphone works. Some voice calling problems are due to problems with a phone’s audio system namely its speaker and microphone. To ensure that they are working in your device, be sure to record your voice using Voice Memos app. Refer to the steps we provide for Territidbits above.

Install latest iOS and app updates. If you’ve reached this far, the most likely reason for the problem is network-related. Before you contact your carrier, be sure to install the latest operating system and app updates. Some known bugs are fixed by updates so you don’t want to waste your time and effort in contacting your carrier by not doing this simple step.

Problem 3: iPhone 7 out of coverage area error when trying to make a call

Hello. I have bought an iPhone 7 plus on 7th of October 2016 . I didn’t have any issue initially but since few days am facing an issue of signal dropping every morning and i have to restart my phone every morning. out of coverage area is the voice i get when i call. Iphone 5s on other hand works well at the same time. Please solve my issue ASAP. Thank you. — Roopanjali

Solution: Hi Roopanjali. This issue may either be due to a device problem or something caused by your network. To see if you can fixed it in your level, these are the things that you can try:

Check the signal strength. The first troubleshooting step in this case is to ensure that your phone shows it has cellular signals. If the device is only getting 1 or 2 signal bars, that can be the reason why your calls are not going through. You should have at least 3 signal bars to make decent quality voice call. Try relocating to a different area and see if you can improve the signal that way.

Restart the device. This simple troubleshooting work wonders at times. If you haven’t tried it yet, make sure that you do now.

Turn  off Airplane mode. If another iPhone running on the same network as your iPhone 7 has good signal coverage and voice calling works fine, the most likely reason for your problem is device-specific. One of such device-specific reasons is Airplane mode being enabled. If your phone does not show any cellular signals at all, make sure that you check Airplane mode. To do this quickly, follow these steps:

  1. Go to your Home page.
  2. Swipe up from the bottom of your Home screen.
  3. Once you’re in the Control Center, tap the Airplane Mode icon. Make sure that it’s turned off.

Alternatively, you can go under Settings>Airplane Mode and tap the slider to turn it off.

Install iOS and app updates. Some iOS updates can include fixes and updates for your phone’s modem which may help fix the problem. Installing updates for apps may also fix problems so be sure to always do this regardless you’re experiencing problems or not.

Do a full Restore. If you’ve already reached this far, there must be a serious bug causing the problem that needs a more drastic solution. Be sure not to hesitate doing a full restore.

Below are the complete steps on how to do it:

  1. Create a backup of your files. You can do that in a number of ways but the fastest and most effective way is by using iTunes in your PC or Mac. If you don’t want to create a backup at all, you can simply erase everything on the phone by following the steps in this link.
  2. Connect your iPhone to your computer with the cable that came with your phone.
  3. We assume you remember your phone’s passcode so simply enter it when you’re prompted for it.
  4. Select your iPhone once iTunes asks you for the specific device.
  5. Once you’re in the Summary panel or screen, select the option that will restore your device (Restore).
  6. Confirm by clicking on Restore button.
  7. Wait for a few moments while iTunes restores your device to its factory settings. It may also take some time if iTunes will need to install an updated operating system version.
  8. After this factory reset, all software settings should be restored to their defaults.

Contact your carrier. As your last resort if a full restore won’t work at all, calling your carrier is a must. The cause must be outside your control at this time.
