iPhone 6S Gets Hot Battery Drains Fast After Phone Got Wet
Problem: HI there, I have an iPhone 6S that I recently (3 days ago) dropped my phone into the sink (filled with water), it actually didn’t seem that bad, so I dried it off and put it in a bag of rice for 48 hours. Last night I took it out of the bag, opened the sim card slot to check for water damage and there was no indication of any damage. I began to use my phone, turned it on, answered a few unanswered messages and emails, it seemed to be working fine, it wasn’t slower than normal – nothing seemed to be wrong, I was on my phone for maybe 25 minutes when it got a bit warm, as soon as I noticed that it got warm it shut down. I figured it shut down because it had been a couple days since I charged or used it last, however, I don’t think it fully shut down. It got stuck on the apple logo screen, it would appear to be waking up then it would stay on a lit up black screen, then seconds later it would have the apple logo again, this process continued for at least 5 minutes. Throughout this process my phone got EXTREMELY hot. I decided to put it on the charger, to see if it just needed a charge, but the charger wouldn’t go in correctly. Yes, I managed to get a piece of rice stuck in the charging place., with the help of my dad and a small sewing needle we got it out, I don’t believe any damage was done to the phone as we poked the piece of rice and it fell out. After I got the piece of rice out I made sure the charging spot was clear and I plugged it in, it began charging and my home screen appeared (everything seemed to be normal). I figured my phone was okay. I let it charge for about an hour, then checked it out and it was at a 70% battery so I took it off the charger and began to use it cautiously again, after about 30 minutes it was hot again and returned to the on again off again behavior, which made it hot (but not as hot as before). It was late and I didn’t know what to do, so I just left it face down (as the screen kept lighting up every few seconds) and went to bed. When I woke up this morning to check on my phone again, it has stopped turning on and off because it had completely drained its battery. 70%-0% in 8 hours, without use. I have plugged it into it’s charger once again. I am officially confused, does my phone have water damage, or potentially a software/hardware issue?? How can I fix my phone?? Solution: It appears that your phone has suffered some water damage. The indications that point to this are as follows
- Your phone gets hot ( possibly due to a short circuit).
- The battery drains quickly ( also due to a short circuit).
- The screen lights up every few seconds even if it is not touched.
The best way to fix this on your end is to make sure that the phone is dry. Since you have already placed the phone in rice for at least 48 hours and the problem still persists then you will have to bring this to the nearest Apple Store and have it checked.
iPhone 6S Only Connects To Wi-Fi If It Is Near The Router
Problem: It started with a software update. I can only connect to a wifi connection if i am inches away from the router, any, anywhere, different countries, public, private, home. I already tried the suggestions above, including DNS. Is there any solution found out there? I live in Costa Rica. Thank you for writing solutions that are very thoroughly, more than other sites.
Solution: Since this problem occurred right after a software update I recommend that you try to restore your phone as a new device. Make sure to backup your phone data before performing the restore. Once the restore has finished try to check if the problem still occurs. If it does then this might already be caused by some hardware issue in which case you will need to bring the phone to the nearest Apple Store and have it checked.
iPhone 6S Will Not Charge
Problem: IPhone 6s was charged to 22% and screen went black. A couple days ago, it said my battery needs to be serviced. It will not charge with a working charger or reset pressing home and power.
Solution: If your phone will not charge then perform the following troubleshooting steps listed below.
- Clean the charging port of the phone using a can of compressed air. Make sure to remove any dirt or debris stuck in the port.
- Charge the phone for at least 20 minutes with a charging cord and wall charger that is known to work with another device.
- Check if your phone can charge from a computer USB port. If it charges this way then the charging port could be faulty in which case you will need to bring the phone to a service center and have it checked.
- Force restart the phone by pressing and holding both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least ten seconds, until you see the Apple logo. Charge the phone for at least 20 minutes.
If the above steps fails to fix the problem then you will need to bring the phone to the nearest Apple Store and have it checked.
