How to Fix Apple iPhone 6 Boot Loop (BLoD) and Other Power-Related Issues

People are undoubtedly pleased upon getting their share of one of Apple’s sophisticated, highest-tiered smartphones like the iPhone 6, but a few months later, many owners were vexed when devices issues began to emerge.

How to Fix Apple iPhone 6 Boot Loop (BLoD) and Other Power-Related Issues

As a matter of fact, several owners of the Apple iPhone 6 have been complaining about various issues including those that are associated with power. One of the most visible complaints appearing on pertinent forums and websites is on the iPhone that is stuck in boot loop or BLoD state. Other related symptoms:

  • Device gets stuck on a black screen.
  • Show a battery logo with a red line while the device is fully charged.
  • Apple logo shows up briefly and then screen goes blank.
  • Screen stuck on a spinning wheel.
  • Device won’t turn on at all.

Read on to learn what has possibly caused these problems to occur and what should be done to fix them and get your device up and running again.

Below are three relevant scenarios (emailed to us by iOS device owners) in which the iPhone 6 is stuck in the so-called Boot Loop of Death or BLoD state.

Problem: iPhone stuck at the Apple logo during boot up, pink screen

“When I go to my setting & try to turn on my passcode and touch ID, I see a pink screen with a white thick line above (horizontally), then my phone shuts off and I see the apple logo appearing a few times but it always disappears and my phone won’t turn on till i hold my on/off button and touch ID for 20 seconds and it restarts.”

Suggestion: If this happens just recently, then it’s possible that some tweaks or apps have gone rogue and triggered your iPhone to act oddly. Forcing the device to reboot as what you did when you pressed and held the Power and Home (TouchID) buttons simultaneously for 20 seconds until the Apple logo appears would often rectify such problem. In fact, this is a widely recommended trick to deal with apps-related problems occurring on various iOS devices. To determine if the problem is actually caused by a faulty application, think of the most recent app you’ve added or installed prior to the onset of the problem. You can either temporarily disable or uninstall any suspected apps and see if that would make your device work normally again.

If problem persists, you may refer to other troubleshooting methods I recommend and itemize beneath this post.

Problem: iPhone shows red lines and distorted colors upon boot up with low battery

“So I was just browsing on my phone and the color went distorted. Everything has a slight blue team tint. And I have restarted my iPhone and when the Apple logo comes up there are red lines coming from it. Also when my battery was on red there were red lines coming away from it. Please help, I’ve only had this phone for 3 months.”

Suggestion: Based on your given statement, this happens when the battery power is getting low. So it’s possible that the problem is tied to the battery itself. I suggest calibrating your battery first, and see if that will fix the color distortion on your iPhone. I have created a dedicated section beneath this content containing applicable troubleshooting methods in step-by-step format, to further assist those who are not familiar with any of the recommended workarounds. Just scroll down a bit, if you want to give them a try.

Problem: iPhone keeps rebooting, can’t get past the Apple logo

“So I was given an iPhone 6 by my mate. He did a factory reset and the Apple logo came up with the progress underneath it but the bar wasn’t moving. So I turned the phone off after 20 minutes and now it just flashes the Apple logo for about 4 seconds, then black screen, and then logo again and it just repeats that until i turn it off. Please help!”

Suggestion: Turning off the iPhone during software update or factory reset may damage the device. Apparently this is what happened in your case. The factory reset was interrupted or did not complete and therefore, unsuccessful. As a result, your iPhone got bricked the reason why it can’t boot up.

If this iPhone is new, then you may avail for warranties – either for service or replacement. But if your warranty is already void, then you can try the following workarounds to revive your bricked iPhone. Otherwise, take it to an authorized technician for physical repair or restoration.

Force reboot your iPhone with these steps:

  • Press and hold the Power and Home buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo shows up.
  • Release both buttons.
  • Wait for the Home screen to load up.

If that won’t work, then your next option is to perform a complete restoration or restore your iPhone via iTunes. If that won’t help either, then it’s time to try using the iOS recovery mode or boot your iPhone into recover mode. Your iPhone somehow contains a pre-installed hidden stock recovery that can help restore your device to its previous state. Please refer to the steps I provided below this page, if necessary.

If all the aforesaid methods failed to fix your iPhone, then your last resort (before paying for a technician visit) is to try using DFU mode.

If you need further assistance on how to perform the workarounds I suggest, feel free to refer to the steps I’ve created as follow.

Steps to calibrate your iPhone 6 battery

Note: Do not use your phone while charging.

  • Start by draining your phone’s battery or run your phone until its power is down to zero. This means using the phone until it powers down on its own.
  • Charge your phone’s battery all the way up to 100 percent.
  • Once the battery is completely charged, allow your phone to charge for another hour before unplugging it from the charger.
  • Again, use your phone as you normal do and let it drain down to zero. Be sure not to charge it at any time.
  • Charge it up to a hundred percent after it becomes empty again, and then leave it charging for an hour.
  • Perform a soft reset or press and hold the Power and Home buttons together until the Apple logo shows up.

After that your phone’s battery is already calibrated.

Steps to restore your iPhone:

Follow these steps and restore your iPhone using your backup file.

  1. Ensure the latest version of iTunes is installed on your computer.
  2. Connect your iPhone to the computer using the original USB cable or any compatible USB cable.
  3. Open iTunes on your computer.
  4. Select your device from the list.
  5. Navigate to the Summary section and click the Restore button.
  6. Wait for iTunes to completely download the latest iOS.
  7. Select a back-up to restore from or a new version you prefer.
  8. Wait until your iPhone syncs completely.

Steps to boot your iPhone 6 into Recovery Mode:

  1. Power off your iPhone.
  2. With your iPhone turned off, press and hold the Home and Power buttons simultaneously until the screen turns on.
  3. Connect your iPhone to the computer using the original or any compatible USB cable while keeping the Home button pressed.
  4. When the iTunes screen and the USB cable icon appear, release the Home button.
  5. Begin restoring your iPhone. Please refer to the aforesaid steps on how to restore your iPhone.

Steps to boot your iPhone into DFU mode

If nothing else works, putting your iPhone 6 into DFU or Device Firmware Update mode can be your last best hope for obtaining a fix. When DFU mode is enabled, your iPhone will be put into a state where it is still able to communicate with iTunes on a PC or Mac. But it has not loaded the iOS or boot loader, allowing you to restore the device from any state. Here’s how it works on your iPhone 6.

Important note:

Be careful to manipulate your device when in DFU mode because there’s a higher chance of flashing the wrong firmware or mess the bootloader when jailbreaking.

  • Turn on your iPhone.
  • Open iTunes on a computer (Mac or Windows).
  • Connect your iPhone to the computer using a USB cable.
  • Press and hold the Home and Power buttons simultaneously for exactly 10 seconds and then release the Power

Important Notes:

  • Don’t hold the buttons for too long. If the Apple logo appears, you will need to start all over.
  • If your iPhone screen stays black, then that denotes it’s already in DFU mode. To show up next is an iTunes alert saying it has detected your iPhone and that it’s ready to be restored.
  1. Keep holding the Home button until iTunes detects your iPhone in recovery mode.

You may now start diagnosing your iPhone and start to delete or uninstall corrupt tweaks or faulty apps, if necessary.

Alternative method to fix boot loop problem using DFU mode

  • Press and hold the Power and Home simultaneously for 10 seconds (or until the screen goes black).
  • Press and hold the Power and Volume Up buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears.
  • Release the Power
  • Keep holding the Volume Up button until it passes the Apple logo. It would take a little longer for the lock screen to appear.
  • Unlock the screen.
  • Start to delete or remove the tweak or app that may have possibly caused the boot loop to occur.

If you are not sure of what exactly is causing the boot loop, try to delete Cydia Substrate instead. Doing so will delete everything and then reinstall them afterwards.

Quick Tips:

  • To prevent boot loop problem from reoccurring on your iOS device, make sure you only install tweaks from Cydia that are fully compatible with your phone’s iOS version. Installation of unstable or incompatible tweaks can put your device in BLoD state again.
  • When performing a factory reset, system restore, and firmware update, you may connect or charge your iPhone to a power outlet to ensure no power interruptions and wait for the device to complete the entire process to prevent causing any damage to the phone system or hardware itself.

  1. This was EXTREMELY Helpful on the boot screen loop. The phone was dropped and detroyed the LCD, so I replaced that and it went into this loop making me think one of the IC’s got damaged or I crossed one of the pins but after holding down the home screen as you stated, worked. Lucky for me, nothing was lost as I had to restore it through iTunes once the battery was charged enough which I can then go into data recovery.
    Thankyou

  2. I’ve been experiencing this problem with my iphone 6. It only began happening after i went to have my phone battery replaced through batteries plus bulbs. Within three months of the replacement, the boot loop problem began. The problem was preceded by the phone getting really hot followed by inaccurate battery readings. Once the phone started boot-looping. I had to charge it for a few hours before I could get to the home screen. The battery wouldn’t charge past 1%. I attempted all of the troubleshooting mentioned above save jail-braking my phone with absolutely no change. This lead me to believe that the issue was with the hardware or with the battery rather than with software or apps. I went back to batteries plus bulbs to have them replace the battery since it was still within warranty. They replaced the battery for free and the problem was fixed, or at least for a week and then the same thing happened again. They seem to think it has something to do with the battery’s circuit board frying over and over again for some reason. I have an appointment to replace the battery again this next Tuesday. I’ll let you know if anything changes.

  3. Thanks for your sharing! It really helps a lot. I know it’s always been a common problem for iP
hone users, and I am having the same issue. I just have a question whether I should try to update the iPhone via iTunes without erasing all my data can be successful or not. If the update is unsuccessful, will I have an option to not do the restore, which will erase my iPhone? I don’t want to take a risk of data loss, so I would rather use a tool, like iOS system recovery tool from imyfone, or other ones.

  4. 1p6s+ 128g, apple logo then to black. I can hold for 20 secs and get to the recovery mode and itunes says it’s unable to load the update (likely because the phone is full), the only other option is to restore but I would lose valuable data (pics, texts etc) from the last several days since last itunes save. Is it possible Apple Store can access the data or am I kind of screwed?

  5. iPhone 6, wouldnt boot other than a few seconds of the apple logo.

Suspected problem: boot starting before battery has sufficient charge to complete the boot, shuts down before completing, charges a bit, and repeats.

Solution in my case: hold power button to power off the phone, apparently that still worked somehow. Then you get to see the big battery charging pic on the screen, as it does when your phone charges when its off.

Wait for a bit, then turn on the phone as normal. Should have enough power to boot into ios.

Could have been a lucky break instead of this specific process, but it worked. Good luck!

  6. Thank you for your instruction! I have an iPhone 6 that has been stuck on a loop for months. I’ve tried what I could before it’s no results. I almost threw them away. Figured I give it one last shot. I followed what you said and now it is on its way to recovery. Thank you.
