- As per new data published by Counterpoint Research the iPhone 11 was the second-best-selling phone of 2019 behind the iPhone XR.
- This is quite commendable given that the iPhone 11 was only available in the latter part of 2019.
- The data also revealed that Apple’s dominance was limited to the North American markets, while European and Asian markets had at least one or two Samsung phones in the top 5.
The iPhone 11 has been quite successful for Apple as previous estimates have mentioned. Now, a report by Counterpoint Research illustrates this point yet again. As per the research firm, the iPhone 11 was the second best selling smartphone in the world behind the iPhone XR.
While the big takeaway from this may be that Apple has two phones on the list of the top-selling smartphones of 2019. But what’s also crucial is that the iPhone 11 managed to reach the second spot despite being available for less than four months in 2019.
At third and fourth place were Samsung’s Galaxy A50 and Galaxy A10, which are the company’s mid-range offerings. However, none of Samsung’s flagships featured in the top 10 list. Phones like the iPhone 7 and the iPhone XS Max ended up in the 9th and 10th place.
It’s worth pointing out that Apple only enjoys this amount of popularity in the North American market. In regions like Europe, the iPhone XR managed to come in at 2nd place with the Samsung Galaxy A50 topping the sales chart. In the Rest of APAC, the iPhone XR managed to secure a 2% share of the pie while phones like the Galaxy A50 and the Oppo A5s dominated the region.
It’s clear that Apple still has a lot of work to do if it wants to catch up with the likes of Oppo, Samsung, and Huawei in Asian and European markets. While North American sales of its latest smartphone are certainly encouraging, Apple will hope to perform better in other markets by the end of 2020.
