Most apps and features of the new Apple iPad Air 3 slate or any other Apple devices for that matter do require Internet access to function. Thus, Wi-Fi is among the first key features that need to be activated and configured during the initial setup process. But the fact that network-related problems are inevitable makes early occurrences of Wi-Fi connectivity issues possible. Lined up below are possible solutions and procedures that will help you deal with a pertinent issue on the new iPad Air 2019 device. Read on to learn what to do if your new iPad Air won’t connect to Wi-Fi.

Fixing iPad Air 3 that won’t connect to WiFi network
Before troubleshooting, make sure that you are near the Wi-Fi hotspot or wireless router/modem. There’s a tendency for your device to fail to connect if the Wi-Fi reception is poor or unstable. If moving closer to the Wi-Fi hotspot or modem doesn’t do any good, move on and carry out the following methods. Don’t forget to retry connecting to Wi-Fi after performing each procedure to determine whether or not the problem is fixed. Proceed to the next applicable solution if necessary.
First solution: Power cycle the router/modem.
The very source of your Internet connection is the wireless router or modem (depending on your network setup). Thus if something goes wrong with the router/modem, all connected devices will experience adverse symptoms from intermittent connection or Wi-Fi drops to slow browsing or worst, no Internet access at all. Like any other devices, routers and modems also give into random firmware crashes. And when this happens, various symptoms could instigate. To deal with minor symptoms inflicted by random firmware crashes on the network equipment, power cycling or restarting is recommended. So here’s what you should do first:
- Locate the switch/power button then press or flip it to turn the modem/router off.
- While the modem/router is turned off, unplug its power adapter from the power source. Keep it unplugged for about 30 seconds to 1 minute.
- After the elapsed time, plug it back in and power on.
- Wait until the modem/router’s signal stabilizes.
Once your iPad Air shows that it’s getting Wi-Fi signal, retry connecting to Wi-Fi and see if it’s working already.
Second solution: Reboot your iPad Air (soft reset).
Another simple solution to try is a reboot or soft reset on the iPad Air. This will likely solve the problem if minor software errors on the iPad are to blame. Performing a soft reset on the iPad also dumps junk files and other corrupted temporary data that might have caused conflict to the wireless system. And here’s how it’s done:
- Press and hold down the Power/Top button for a few seconds until the Power off slider appears.
- Drag the slider to power off your device.
- After a few seconds, press and hold the Power/Top button until the Apple logo appears.
Alternatively, you can shutdown and restart your iPad Air through settings. Just follow these steps:
- Go to Settings, from your Home screen.
- Tap General.
- Tap Shut Down. The power off slider will then show up.
- Drag the slider to power off the device.
- After a few seconds, press and hold the Top/Power button until the Apple logo appears.
Allow your iPad to boot up completely and then retry connecting to Wi-Fi and see if it’s working.
Third solution: Turn Wi-Fi off and on.
Giving a quick refresh to your iPad’s Wi-Fi function can also help eliminate random glitches affecting wireless features and services. And the simplest way to do so is to toggle Wi-Fi off and on again. Here’s how it works:
- Tap Settings from the Home screen.
- Tap Wi-Fi.
- Toggle the Wi-Fi switch to turn it OFF.
- Reboot your iPad.
- Go back to Settings-> Wi-Fi menu.
- Then toggle the switch to turn Wi-Fi back ON again.
Once Wi-Fi is turned on, try connecting your iPad Air to Wi-Fi and see if the problem is gone. Otherwise, proceed to the next tweak.
Fourth solution: Toggle Airplane mode on and off.
Many people who have dealt with various types of Wi-Fi problems have found remedy from the Airplane mode trick. It works by simultaneously disabling wireless radios and relevant features on the iPad for a few seconds and then enabling them back. If you wish to give it a try, then here’s how it’s done:
- Tap Settings from the Home screen.
- Tap the Airplane Mode slider to the ON position. Doing so enables Airplane Mode and disables wireless radios and relevant features including cellular and Wi-Fi networks on your iPad.
- While Airplane Mode is turned ON, soft reset or restart your iPad Air.
- Wait for your iPad to finish restarting and afterwards, head back to Settings-> Airplane Mode menu then toggle the switch to turn Airplane Mode off again.
Once Airplane mode is disabled, you should be able to connect to Wi-Fi. See if that’s what you get.
Fifth solution: Forget Wi-Fi networks.
It is possible that the Wi-Fi network you are trying to connect to is the problem. Sometimes, a Wi-Fi network gets corrupted and so it no longer works as intended. To rule this out, forget the Wi-Fi network from your device and then set it up again to reconnect. Here’s how:
- Go to Settings-> Wi-Fi menu. Make sure that the Wi-Fi switch is turned on to view all saved Wi-Fi networks.
- Select the Wi-Fi network to forget.
- To the information “i” icon next to the SSID/Wi-Fi network name.
- Tap Forget This Network.
- Then tap to confirm that you want to forget the Wi-Fi network.
Follow the same steps to forget all other saved Wi-Fi network on your device. It is imperative to delete or forget other unused Wi-Fi networks to prevent any of them from causing conflicts to the Wi-Fi network you are using.
Sixth solution: Reset network settings.
If the problem continues up to this point, then you may have to consider opting for resets. There are different types of resets you can do on your iOS device. But the most applicable method in this case is the network settings reset. Performing this reset will erase all current network configurations including saved Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connections, APNs and other relevant information. Errors that are tied to incorrect network configurations are likewise cleared out in the process. Whenever you’re all set, follow these steps to reset network settings on your iPad Air:
- From the Home screen, tap on Settings.
- Tap General.
- Scroll down to and tap on Reset.
- Tap Reset Network Settings. This will reset all your Wi-Fi, cellular, and VPN settings.
- If prompted, tap Reset to confirm that you want to reset network settings on your iPad Air.
Let the iPad finish resetting and then restarts automatically. Then turn on Wi-Fi and retry connecting to your Wi-Fi network. See if you find success this time.
Last resort: Erase your iPad through iTunes and set up Wi-Fi from scratch.
Performing the above procedures is usually enough to deal with minor Wi-Fi connectivity issues but if you still ended up having the same problem after exhausting all aforementioned solutions, chances are that complex errors on the network system is present. To get rid of these errors, performing a factory reset or full system reset would be necessary. But you have to note though that this will also erase all your saved contents including personal information, downloads, customized settings and other files stored on the internal memory. On the positive note, complex errors that caused persistent Wi-Fi problems are also eliminated. If you wish to continue, back your iPad Air data to iCloud or iTunes, then follow these steps to erase and restore factory default settings on your iPad Air through iTunes:
- Open iTunes on your computer. Be sure to use the latest version of iTunes app.
- Connect your iPad Air to the computer using the Apple-supplied cable or Lightning cable that came with it.
- If prompted to enter your device passcode or Trust This Computer, simply follow the onscreen instructions to proceed.
- Select your iPad Air 3 when it shows up in iTunes.
- Navigate to the Summary section, then click the button to Restore [iPhone]. You may also opt to back up files from your iPad before restoring it. Just click the Back Up iPhone button to do so.
- Finally, if prompted with a warning message, click the Restore button to confirm.
Allow your iPad to finish restoring and once it’s finished, use the start-up wizard to set it up as new.
Still can’t connect to Wi-Fi?
Contact your Internet service provider or carrier and ask them to check their system for any outage logs. It’s possible that the problem isn’t on your end but rather on the network base. This is usually the case when temporary outages or scheduled maintenance are transpiring. You can also ask your carrier to implement necessary carrier updates on your device. If you suspect that the problem is with the network equipment, you can also ask your Internet service provider to remotely reset the router/modem. They do have dedicated software to serve such purpose. Should you wish to rule out hardware damage, then you may take your iPad to the nearest Apple Genius bar instead.
