  • Check if your Apple device software is up to date.

Make sure that you’re iPhone is updated to the latest iOS version. It is important that you are using an iPhone that is updated so as to prevent any problems with software and apps. To check whether you are up to date:

  1. Go to Settings from the Home Screen
  2. Tap on General
  3. Then tap on Software Update
  4. Ensure that you are connected to a stable WiFI

Make sure that you are connected to a strong and stable WiFi connection. Having a weak connection can affect activation of iMessage and iFacetime. You can check signal strength located at the upper portion of your screen.

When all the mentioned above have been checked, let us now proceed to the potential solution that might help resolve.

Solution 1: Change Date & Time

As mentioned above, after  software update sometimes settings on your Apple devices have been set to default that is why you must manually change date and time to set Automatically. To change date and time, follow these simple steps:

  1. Go to Settings from the Home Screen
  2. Tap on General
  3. Tap on Date & Time
  4. On the “Set Automatically” tab, Toggle it ON
  5. Try to activate iMessage and Facetime again if the issue has been resolved.

Solution 2: Restart iMessage & Facetime

At times, an error message occurs because of glitch that usually happens if both the features are having some conflicts. Restarting both features can sometimes help resolve activation issues. Since activation process was discussed at the earlier part of this article, we will do that again but this time to restart both features.

To restart iMessage: go to Settings from the Home Screen, tap on Messages, this time toggle OFF iMessage button.

To restart Facetime: Go to Settings from the Home Screen, tap on Facetime, then toggle OFF by swiping right the Facetime button.

After turning both features off, you may either switch to Airplane mode ON and OFF again or you can turn off and restart your iPhone. After a few seconds, turn ON device and do the activation process again to see if the error has been resolved.

Solution 3: Sign out and Sign back in iMessage Account

Doing this can restart and refresh iMessage Account on iPhone and that can somehow help resolve error issues on activation

To do this, follow these simple steps:

  1. Go to Settings from the Home Screen
  2. Tap on Messages
  3. Tap on Send and Receive
  4. Tap on iMessage Account
  5. Choose and tap on Sign out
  6. After a few seconds, Sign back in using the correct login details
  7. Try to activate iMessage again.

Solution 4: Reset Network Settings

This solution resets settings to default. Since these does not delete the contents and personal information on your iPhone, it resets WiFI passwords. Which mean there’s a need to input Wifi Passwords to connect. That is why it is recommended to remember and have a backup copy of WiFi passwords to prevent problems with logging in and connecting to WiFi.

You can reset network settings by simply:

  1. Go to Settings from the Home Screen
  2. Next tap on General
  3. Then tap on Reset
  4. Choose and tap on Reset Network Settings
  5. If required, you may need to enter Passcode to confirm action.
