Troubleshooting iPad Air 3 with Netflix app that’s not working

Netflix is a popular streaming content provider. Through this platform, you can watch your favourite TV shows, films, documentaries and other contents on different types of Internet-connected devices. One of the requisites to use Netflix is a registered Netflix account. Once you have signed up for a Netflix account, sign in to access your account and begin streaming videos through the Netflix app. Given the fact that you’re streaming unlimited videos through the platform, your device must have fast and stable Internet connection. If you’re certain that all the said requisites are met but the Netflix app isn’t working as intended or keeps crashing on your new Apple tablet, then you can use the following procedures to troubleshoot your device.

Don’t forget to test run the Netflix app after performing each method to determine whether or not the problem is solved. If the symptom continues, continue to the next method to rule out other possible culprits.

First solution: End/close Netflix then restart your iPad Air 3.

If Netflix was perfectly working fine on your iPad and then it’s suddenly acting up, it’s likely due to some random system glitches affecting the app. This is often the case if you’ve left the Netflix app suspended or running in the background for long. To rectify the flawed app, close it out or end it from your iPad using these steps:

  1. To get started, go to the Home screen and press the Home key twice to view recent applications. A list of app cards or previews will then show up. These are the apps you’ve recently used and left suspended or running in the background.
  2. Swipe up on the Netflix app preview to close it out.
  3. Do the same to end all background apps.
  4. After clearing all background apps, tap anywhere on the Home screen or press the Home key to go back to the main screen.

After closing Netflix and other background apps, reboot or soft reset your iPad to dump junk files from its internal memory and to refresh the system as well. Here’s how a soft reset is carried out on your new iPad Air:

  1. Press and hold down the Power/Top button for a few seconds until the Power off slider appears.
  2. Drag the slider to power off your device.
  3. After a few seconds, press and hold the Power/Top button until the Apple logo appears.

Allow your device to finish booting up and once it’s done, launch Netflix app again and see if it’s already working fine.

Second solution: Update Netflix on your iPad Air, if possible.

Performing the above procedures is usually enough to deal with minor software issues that caused certain apps to misbehave. But if that doesn’t help, then your next option would be to install new update for Netflix app. These updates usually embed fix patches to address existing in-app errors. If you haven’t set your apps to auto-update, chances are that you’ve missed to implement some critical app updates including for Netflix. In this case, you can manually check for and install pending app updates through the App Store. Just follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the Home screen then tap App Store. Doing so will open the Apple Store app.
  2. Scroll to the bottom of the App Store main screen then tap on Updates. A list of apps with pending updates will then show up on the screen.
  3. Scroll through the apps list then tap the Update button next to the name of the app (Netflix) to install pending update.
  4. If multiple app updates are available, you can just tap the Update All button on the top-right corner of the screen. Doing so will install all pending app updates at once.

Wait until all the apps are finished updating and once they’re done, reboot/soft reset your iPad to apply the recent software changes and to refresh the apps.

Third solution: Reinstall Netflix app on your iPad Air 3.

This can be considered as the next option and possible solution to try if the Netflix app continues to crash. Recurring symptoms may indicate that the application is no longer able to work because it’s corrupted. In this case, the corrupted app must be deleted and reinstalled.

The Netflix app for iPhone and iPad can be downloaded directly from the App Store. Once the app is installed, you can stream movies and TV shows straight to your iOS device via Netflix app or view through any Airplay-enabled devices such as Apple TV. But like any other apps, Netflix app may also succumb to fatal errors that could lead to data corruption. To deal with corrupted apps, try performing these steps:

  1. Go to the Home screen to get started.
  2. Tap and hold on an app icon until the icons start wiggling.
  3. Tap the X on the upper left corner of the Netflix app icon.
  4. Tap Delete if prompted to confirm app deletion.
  5. Tap the Home screen or press the Home key to stop the apps from wiggling.

The other way to uninstall third-party apps from your iPad is through the storage menu. Here’s how to get there:

  1. From the Home screen, tap Settings.
  2. Select General.
  3. Tap iPad Storage.
  4. Scroll through the list of apps then select Netflix.
  5. Tap the option to Delete App then confirm.

After deleting the Netflix app, reboot your iPad Air. Then continue with these steps to re-download and install Netflix app on your device.

  1. Then tap the App Store from the Home screen.
  2. Search for Netflix app.
  3. Then tap the cloud-like icon or GET button to download the app.
  4. Tap INSTALL to instigate installation of the Netflix application.
  5. If prompted, enter the correct Apple ID Password and tap OK to proceed.
  6. Wait until the download is complete then tap OPEN.

If prompted to sign into your Netflix account, provide the correct credentials to access your Netflix account and start streaming videos through the platform.

Fourth solution: Install pending iOS update on your iPad Air 3.

One of the most important things you should do to keep your iPhone system stable and optimized is to keep your device software up to date. The latest iOS version for your iPad Air 3 is iOS 12.3.1, which was officially rolled out in May 24th this year. If you haven’t yet updated your iPad software to the latest version, then updating can potentially solve the problem. Software updates released by Apple usually contain fix patches that are designed to address existing issues inflicted by malwares and bugs in iOS devices. If your iPad has stable Internet access, sufficient power and ample of memory space, then follow these steps to view and install the latest iOS version available:

  1. From the Home screen, tap Settings.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Tap Software Update.

Before updating, update all your important files from the iPad to iCloud or to iTunes. Then select the option to download and install whenever you’re all set to update your iPad.

Follow the rest of the onscreen instructions to finish updating your device then reboot it when the update is finished.

Fifth solution: Modify or disable Restrictions on your iPad Air 3.

Sometimes, apps couldn’t get to work as intended because they are restricted. In iOS 12 or later devices, various types of app problems are attributed to restrictions. What usually happens is that the app isn’t able to carry out its usual tasks because restrictions are enabled for that app. To make sure that this isn’t causing troubles with Netflix app, manage or turn off restrictions with these steps:

  1. Tap Settings from the Home screen.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Tap Content & Privacy Restrictions.
  4. If the feature is enabled, you will be prompted to enter your restrictions passcode. Just enter the correct passcode to continue.
  5. To modify restrictions, navigate to the Allowed Content section then tap on Websites. The Specific Websites Only or Limit Adult Content option must be selected.
  6. Scroll to the bottom of the list and enter https://secure.netflix.com along your preferred title/description.
  7. Then tap Done to apply the changes.

Alternatively, you could just disable Restrictions completely with these steps:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Select General.
  3. Tap Content & Privacy Restrictions.
  4. Then select the option to Disable Restrictions.
  5. Enter your restrictions passcode again when asked to disable restrictions.

After disabling restrictions, try loading Netflix again and see if it’s already working properly.

Sixth solution: Reset network settings on your iPad Air 3.

Network-related issues are also among the possible reasons as to why Internet-based apps stopped working or keeps crashing. To rule out network errors, reset your iPad’s network settings with these steps:

  1. Tap Settings from your Home screen.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Scroll down and tap on Reset.
  4. Choose Reset network settings from the given options.
  5. Enter your passcode when asked to proceed.
  6. Finally, tap the option to confirm network settings reset.

This reset wipes all your current network configurations including saved Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connections. After the reset, default network values and options are restored. This means the need for you to re-enable Wi-Fi to reconnect to your Wi-Fi network, go back online and use online services including Netflix streaming.

Last resort: Reset all settings on your iPad Air 3.

If all else failed to fix the problem, this reset can be considered among the last options. Performing this reset deletes all customized settings on the devices including erratic configurations that might have caused conflicts to Netflix. This doesn’t affect any saved information on the internal memory, hence creating backup won’t be necessary. Refer to these steps if you wish to give this reset a shot:

  1. From the Home screen, tap on Settings.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Tap Reset.
  4. Select the option to Reset all settings.
  5. Enter your passcode to proceed.
  6. Tap the option to confirm all settings reset.

Your iPad should reboot when the reset is finished. By then you can start enabling necessary features including Wi-Fi and Bluetooth to use them again on your device. Once you’re device is back online, launch Netflix, sign into your account then start streaming.

Still couldn’t get Netflix to work on your iPad Air 3?

If Netflix continues to crash after exhausting all the above solutions, escalate the problem to Support team for further assistance and suggestions. It’s possible that the Netflix server is currently experiencing technical problems and thereby caused the app to fail or become unstable at the moment. Also let them know of the initial procedures you’ve done on your end while trying to fix the problem. Doing so will save you time and effort from repeating the same troubleshooting procedures.

To determine if this is a widespread issue with the Netflix service, see if you can access it from your Internet browser. Open Safari or Chrome app on your device then navigate to netflix.com and sign into your account. If you can stream through the browser, then something is wrong with the Netflix app. But if you can stream even through the browser, then the Netflix server may be experiencing downtime and not available at the moment. In this case, try streaming Netflix at a later time.
