How to fix an iPhone X that is stuck on Apple logo, infinite boot loops [Troubleshooting Guide]

Truly it’s a bummer for anyone to own a hefty device that is already experiencing serious issues at a very early stage. This is how some iPhone X owners felt the moment they found their brand new iPhone is misbehaving like when all of a sudden it will just restart by itself. Let’s tackle what causes the new iPhone X to get stuck on infinite boot loops and what to do when this problem occurs to you as well.

First solution: Force your iPhone X to restart.

A forced restart is a simulated battery removal procedure. It works the same as a soft reset or standard restart but only through the hardware keys. This restart is recommended when dealing with software issues that cause the iPhone to freeze or become unresponsive to touches. Unlike the early iPhones, a forced restart on the iPhone X is done in a different way. For starters, here’s how it’s done:

  1. Quickly press and release the Volume Up button.
  2. Then quickly press and release the Volume Down button.
  3. Finally, press and hold the Side/Power button until the Apple logo appears.

You may need to hold down the Side/Power button for long enough (about 30 seconds or so) until you see the Apple logo on the screen.

A forced restart will not delete any of your important data stored on the internal  memory thus it’s a safe process to begin with.

Second solution: Disable Show Previews in Notifications.

If you get a chance to access the Home screen longer enough before your iPhone X starts to power cycle by itself, quickly configure the notifications settings to disable previews. Here’s how you do it:

  1. Tap Settings.
  2. Tap Notifications
  3. Select the option to Show Previews.
  4. Tap on Never.

Restart your iPhone X after making changes to the notifications settings then see if that fixes the problem. If not, then try the next applicable solution. Some people found luck in resorting to this method so you might as well take your chances.

Third solution: Change the date back to December 1, 2017.

Manually changing the date back to the 1st of December, 2017 has done wonders to some people who have dealt with a similar issue in which their iPhone X is stuck on Apple logo or infinite restarts. In prior instances, the problem was somehow triggered by the so-called date bug on the iPhone X. And then it was determined that the bug can be fixed by simply sending your iPhone back in time all the way to December 1, 2017. If you can get your iPhone to reach the Home screen, promptly backdate your iPhone settings. Here’s how:

  1. Tap Settings.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Tap Date & Time.
  4. Tap the switch next to the Set Automatically option to turn it off.
  5. When the Automatic date is off, you’ll notice the current date turning blue at the bottom of the date menu on your iPhone X. Open the date slider by tapping on the date.
  6. Then use your finger to adjust the slider to Fri December 1, 2017.
  7. Tap the Arrow Back before the General menu label in the upper left side of the screen.

Apparently, this is just a temporary solution. If you find luck in doing so then you’re good. Otherwise, you need to try something else.

Fourth solution: Update iOS to the latest version available.

The problem you are dealing with is attributed to a software malfunction, most likely a major system crash triggered by certain bugs and software glitches. Usually, Apple would roll out minor software update that contains the required bug fixes. Thus keeping your iPhone software up to date is highly recommended. If you haven’t already, then you might as well consider doing so.

To check for new software update for your iPhone X, head over to Settings-> General-> Software Update.

An update notification typically appears when a new update is available for your iPhone. Before you implement the new firmware update on your device, create a backup of your important data for safekeeping. Once everything is set, you can update your iPhone X wirelessly (OTA). Make sure your iPhone is connected to Wi-Fi internet and has enough power. But given the fact that your device isn’t really that stable as it can reboot by itself at any time, wireless update installation may not be right option. In this case, you can use iTunes to update your iPhone X software instead. In order to get started, you will need to secure a computer with the latest version of iTunes software installed.

Fifth solution: Restore your iPhone X.

The last best hope to fix stuck or bootloop problem on your iPhone X is an iOS restore. There are two types of restore you can try through iTunes. You may attempt a recovery mode restore or a DFU mode restore.
A recovery mode restore is when you will put your iPhone X in recovery mode and once your iPhone X is in a recovery mode state, restore iOS through iTunes commands. A DFU (device firmware update) mode restore is regarded as the most in-depth type of system restore you can do on your iPhone. When your iPhone is put in a DFU mode state, it’s able to communicate with iTunes on the computer without activating the bootloader or iOS.

Most software-related problems transpiring in in various iPhone variants are successfully resolved through either restore procedures. Nonetheless, both methods would result to data loss.
