Before anything else, let us talk about the new and improved existing features that Apple added to edit photos and videos iOS 13 in Photos app.

Crop Tool: Before the new update iOS 13, the crop tool used to have few options, aside from being able to manually crop your image. But with iOS 13, the tool now have a feature for Auto-crop that does not only straightens the image but making it more look like a dramatic crop of the image. There are also some options for the sizes to be used in Auto-Crop.

Aside from being able to rotate the images, you are also able to flip the image in a horizontal manner. Also, correcting the perspective of the image is made possible by using either the horizontal and vertical tools.

Fade:  Tapping the magic wand to edit photos and then sliding the slider will automatically adjust the image. When tapping on Auto, you will notice that when you slide the slider, all other editing tools will automatically adjust as well. This fade tool used for auto-adjust makes editing easier and the tool is even more useful.

Powerful Editing: In iOS 13, the new editing screen has improved. All the editing tools are combined into a single column. The tools used for editing Photos are as follows: Exposure, Brilliance, Highlights, Shadow, Contrast, Brightness, Black Point, Saturation, Vibrance, Warmth, Tint, Sharpness, Definition and Noise Reduction. If you notice the B&W tool is no longer available and is replaced by a new tool, the vignette tool.

In order to make adjustments to the appearance of the image, just choose and tap on the desired editing tool. Slide the slider to adjust the image.

Filters: Apple Devices have a built-in filters that remains the same as with the previous iOS version. But there are also a few improvements with these too wherein the Fade tool in Filters is now accessible. When you choose a filter for a particular image, you can slide the slider to adjust the appearance of the image according to your own personal preferences. This tool makes filters on Photos app more easier not to mention a lot more useful than before.

Now we’ve come to a new and exciting tool that Apple made available to iOS, the ability to edit videos using the Photos app. The new video editing tools will be explained one by one below, read on:

Rotate Video: Most of us are used to taking videos with our  iPhone devices in a sideways manner. This is probably because with horizontal recording we might think that the screen is even wider as compared to taking videos vertically. If you want to rotate your videos on Photos App, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Photos app from the Home screen.
  2. Open Photos app and choose the Albums tab.
  3. Scroll down and select Videos
  4. Select the video you want to rotate and tap on Edit.
  5. Tap Crop tool on the bottom right.
  6. Tap on the rotation icon located at the top most left side portion of the screen to adjust according to your desired angle for the video.
  7. Tap Done to apply the changes.

Mute & Trim Videos: Most of the time when we make a video that it became longer than expected and we tend to trim it so reduce the file size or just want to shorten to remove other parts of a particular video. This is where another powertool that Apple added to the editing features of your device comes in handy. The ability to Trim Videos using this simple steps:

  1. Go to Photos app from the Home screen.
  2. Choose the Albums tab.
  3. Scroll down and select Videos
  4. Select the video you want to Trim and tap on Edit.
  5. Tap on the Video icon located at the bottom right.
  6. Then tap on the frame by frame display of the videos you want to trim
  7. Trim the video according to your desired video length by dragging the “yellow line along with the time on the video
  8. Tap Done to apply the changes.

Also, when you video has an added sound on the background but do not have a way of removing it, you can always mute the sound of the video. To do this simply tapping on the upper left icon that looks like a speaker. In here you will notice that the speaker icon has a slash on it, that means the video is already muted.

Adjust video appearance: Making changes to the appearance of the video basically have the same tools as with editing photos in Photo app. To adjust video appearance, tap on the second tool, an icon located at the bottom of the screen. Options for brightness, saturation, contrast, highlights and a lot more will appear on the screen. You can also choose the Auto edit to let the app adjust the video appearance.

Filters: Just like editing Photos, Video editing also has a tool as Filters. These feature changes the appearance of the video without the need for fine-tuning. With the filter tool, you have nine options for filters to choose from.

Crop & Resize: This feature is by far one of the most notable changes in video editing on iOS 13. Before, cropping and resizing videos can only be done using a third party app. Kind of a hassle because you still have to download the app to be able to use it. But now with iOS 13, you can do it directly on your iPhone. To crop and resize a video, using your desired image, tap on the Crop button located at the lower right of the screen and make adjustments using the sliders either for Freeform or square. There are also several image ratio options to choose from: 9:16, 5:7, 3:4 respectively. You also have the option for instance to make a vertical video to look in a horizontal view

One important thing to though is that doing the steps mentioned above, always make sure that you’ve already downloaded the new iOS 13 update as the new features Edit Photos and Videos iOS 13 is not available in the previous iOS version. You also have to make sure that your iPhone supports iOS 13 to be able to enjoy and explore its new features.
