Not all apps and services offered in the App Store and iTunes are free. In fact, most of the App Store and iTunes services are obtainable via one-time purchase. To avoid incurring extra charges from any unauthorized purchases, setting up a password is recommended.

Depicted below is the actual process of activating this feature on the recently rolled out iPhone 14 series. Feel free to refer to this guide if you need help setting up one on your new iOS device.

  1. 1. To begin, open the iOS Settings app.

Simply tap on the Settings app shortcut (gear icon) from the Home screen or App library.

  2. 2. While in the main settings menu, scroll to find then tap Screen Time. The Screen Time menu opens next unless you haven’t set it up yet.

    Note:
If you haven't already, enable Screen Time on your iOS device. This is imperative so that you'll be able to access the Screen Time menu where you can find and enable the option to require password for iTunes and App Store.

Once you've already enabled Screen Time, continue to the next step.

  3. 3. In the Screen Time menu, tap Content & Privacy Restrictions.

Doing so will take you to the iOS menu where you can set restrictions to specific apps and content.

  4. 4. To continue, tap iTunes & App Store Purchases.

require password itunes app store iphone14 4

On the following screen, you will see different options for store purchases & redownloads.

  5. 5. Navigate to the Require Password section then tap Always Require.

Keeping this setting will prompt your device to always ask for the password for every additional purchase attempt from the iTunes, Book or App Store.

In order to authorize purchases, you will need to enter the correct password for your Apple ID account that’s set up on the phone.

Should you wish to revert back to the default settings, just repeat the same steps the return to the iTunes & App Store Purchases menu from Screen Time then set the Require password option from Always Require to Don’t Require.

That will remove any restrictions applied to App Store, iTunes and Books and thereby allow any future purchases without having to enter your Apple ID password.

When to Enable Passwords for iTunes & App Store Purchases?

Enabling this feature is highly recommended especially if you let other people use your iPhone. This way you can be assured that no authorized purchases and paid downloads were accumulated and charged to your account.

And that’s how to authorize iTunes & App Store purchases on the iPhone 14 with a unique password.
