Trick To Extend iPhone Battery Life: Disable Background App Refresh

There’s one setting that can really extend your iPhone battery life and that’s the ‘Background App Refresh.’ Most of the apps on your device are still working even if you’re not actually using them. Apps like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram have to use this service to fetch new data while being idle. That’s the reason why the more apps you installed on your iPhone, the shorter the battery life lasts.

Disabling Background App Refresh will not only extend the battery life, it will also cut down on your data usage because by default, it’s set to work on both WiFi and Cellular data. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. From the Home screen, look for Settings and then tap on it.
  2. Scroll to, and tap General.
  3. Touch Background App Refresh.
  4. You will see a list of apps that use the service. You may toggle the respective switch for each app to restrict background app refresh individually.
  5. If you want to disable them all at once, tap Background App Refresh.
  6. Now, touch Off.

Once disabled, all applications that used to fetch new data in the background will no longer update by themselves. You will have to open them to fetch the data but you can now use your iPhone longer than before.

If you want to disable Background App Refresh for apps that use too much battery while being idle, then here’s what you should do:

  1. Launch Settings.
  2. Scroll down to find Battery, and then tap on it.
  3. In the lower portion of the screen, you will find the list of apps that use battery in the background.
  4. Now, go back to Settings and tap General.
  5. Touch Background App Refresh.
  6. Toggle the switch of the app you don’t want to fetch data in the background.

And that’s pretty much it!
