How To Delete Multiple Contacts On iPhone

We’re adding new people to our Contacts in the iPhone all the time. Whether we meet new friends, or make a business connection, that person’s contact information almost always goes into the Contacts section of the Phone app. And generally, this contact information is almost never removed.

That can clutter up your Contacts list pretty good, making it difficult to find someone in a sea of people that you may not have contact with anymore. The iPhone makes it easy to delete those old contacts on an individual basis fairly easy, but what if you want to delete multiple contacts at once? Follow along with us, and we’ll show you how.

Delete multiple contacts on iPhone

By default, the iPhone only allows you to delete one contact at a time. If you just want to erase everybody from your iPhone, you can go into iCloud and get rid of every contact you have. But, we don’t want that either. Thankfully, there’s a fairly easy way to delete multiple contacts at once — that juts requires us to download an app called Groups.

Groups is nice because once you download and open the application, you give it permission to access your Contacts list. From there, you can get rid of multiple contacts at once, and then that change is reflected within your Phone’s Contacts section as well.

The first step is to download Groups from the App Store.

Once it’s downloaded on your iPhone, be sure to launch the Groups application, and then give it access or permission to your Contacts section when prompted.

In your Groups list, select All Contacts. Now you can go through your contacts, selecting each one manually. You’ll know it’s selected through a highlighted circle to the left of your contact’s name.

Once you have the contacts that you want to get rid of selected, just press the Choose Action button at the top of the app.

A pop-up will appear, you’ll want to select the Delete Contacts option. Another screen will appear, asking you to confirm your decision — press the Remove from iPhone button to continue.

And that’s all there is to it — after pressing that last button, your selected contacts have been wiped from your iPhone. You should see this new changed reflected in Groups, but you should also see the change in the Contacts section within your Phone app as well.

Delete Contacts individually

Overall, if you don’t have an external or third-party app to do it, the iPhone doesn’t lend will into deleting contacts in batches. That said, if you don’t want to use a third-party app, we’ll just have to delete contacts individually.

To do that, open up the Phone app, and hit the Contacts button. Then, select the contact that you want to delete. Press the Edit button at the top-right corner.

Finally, scroll all the way to the bottom of the page and press the Delete Contact button. A prompt will appear, asking you if you want to really delete the contact. Just tap Delete Contact again. And that’s all there is to it!

Groups might not be the most intuitive or well-designed app on the market, but it’s one that is extremely functional. Within just a few steps and taps, you can have all of those contacts simply taking up space gone in just seconds. Groups aims to be a replacement for your Contacts section; however, the nice thing about it is that any changes you make inside Groups, reflects your actual Contacts app, therefore making it easy to delete as many contacts as you’d like.
