With iOS 13 and iPadOS 13 officially making its way to iPhones and iPads a few days ago, Apple made it evident that a few older devices were going to be left out. The company has now issued a separate update for these devices bearing the version number iOS 12.4.2. This pretty much means the end of the road for these devices as they will not see any major updates in the future.
So which devices are seeing the iOS 12.4.2 update now?
- iPad Air
- iPad mini 2
- iPad mini 3
- 6th gen iPod touch
- iPhone 5s
- iPhone 6
- iPhone 6 Plus
As you can see, the list is not too long, and only includes a few devices. Devices like the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus are also on their last legs as far as updates are concerned and are likely to be left out of the next major iOS update next year.
As for Apple’s watchOS, older devices like the Apple Watch Series 1 and Series 2 are now receiving an update to watchOS 5.3.2. It must be noted that these wearables are expected to receive the latest watchOS 6 update in a few months from now, so Apple hasn’t completely given up on these users just yet.
Apple hasn’t posted a detailed changelog for this new iOS update, but considering how these devices got the iOS 12.4.1 update just around a month ago, we don’t expect to see any major changes here.
If you own any of the aforementioned devices, be sure to check for an update. It was recently revealed that the iOS 13 update was causing issues with games like Fortnite and PUBG, which subsequently led the developers to urge players not to update.
