iPhone 7 Cannot Be Restored Error 1671

Problem: Hello! To start off, my phone was 2nd hand when I received it as a gift. The screen had one or two small scratches but the phone worked like it was new. I’ve dropped it a couple of times so there were a few big cracks in the screen but it was still working well. Recently my screen randomly blacked out but I could hear my phone when it rang and I heard the text tone as well. It wouldn’t restart when holding the lock button down by itself and also when holding the lock and home button down at the same time. I waited a few days for the battery to die and tried again after charging but nothing happened. A few days ago I had the screen replaced by a professional but when I try to turn it on or restart it, it flashes the white screen with the apple in the middle and then the screen has:, the itunes logo and a wire being plugged into the phone. The man who fixed the screen said this is normal and I need to update or restore it by plugging it into the same computer I have previously used to back up the phone. I visited the website but the suggestions given did not work.  Apparently I need to reinstall iOS. I have updated iTunes to the latest version. When I connect my phone to the computer and iTunes opens, I see the message: “There’s a problem with the iPhone [my device name] that requires it to be updated or restored.” I click Update and agree to the policy. After about 15 minutes a message appears that says: iphone software update server cannot be contacted. This also happens when I click restore. Sometimes the message says error 1671 occurred, sometimes: the network could not be connected. Please help if you can, I am open to any suggestions you may have. And thank you very much for reading this and trying to help!

Solution: When trying to restore your phone and see the error 1671 appearing this could be caused by several factors. While this might seem like a serious problem it really is not and most of the time it can easily be fixed by following the troubleshooting steps listed below.

  • Make sure that the time, date, and time zone of the computer that you are using is correct.
  • Make sure that you are using an administrator account when logged into the computer.
  • Make sure that you have the latest version of iTunes running in your computer.
  • Make sure that your computer has the latest software updates installed.

Connect your phone to the computer with iTunes installed. Make sure to turn off any security software ( antivirus program) in your computer as this might be interfering with the restoration of the phone. Try restoring your phone again.

In case the issue persists and you are using a Windows computer then proceed with the steps listed below.

  • Disable any and all Antivirus programs that are running in your phone
  • Go to “My Computer” and your C:/ DRIVE
  • Go to Windows – System32 – drivers – etc and locate the “Hosts” file
  • Drag your host file to your desktop
  • Remember this location as you will have to put the hosts file back in this same place after you are done with your restore
  • Open iTunes and restore your phone.
  • Once you are done, make sure to go back to the same folder and put the “host” file into the folder
