What to do if you cannot update apps on your iPhone 11

The App Store is one of the most important system components of any Apple devices. Through this platform, you can add new apps you’d like to use on your iPhone either via one-time purchase or free downloads. It is also where you get updates for your third-party applications. That said, you wouldn’t be able to get the most of your Apple device without App Store’s aid. However, there are just some instances when you just couldn’t get to use App Store service on your device. Such are unavoidable circumstances considering the fact that a lot of factors can trigger various types of errors that can halt App Store from serving its purpose. And one of these issues is what this post will attempt to address. If you own an iPhone 11 and for some reason you cannot update apps using the App Store, then this post might be able to help you out. Read on to find out what to do if you cannot update apps via App Store on your new iPhone.

Troubleshooting an iPhone 11 that cannot update apps via App Store

Software-related issues on the iPhone including random glitches affecting the App Store application are usually the main reasons as to why you cannot update apps at some point. First solution: Force close App Store then restart.

You wouldn’t be able to download or update apps if App Store is not working on your iPhone. Like many other apps, the App Store can also succumb to random issues and would stop working at some point. To clear out minor software glitches causing App Store downloads to fail, force close the application and then restart or soft reset your iPhone 11. Just follow these steps:

  1. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen then stop when your finger reaches the middle and pause until the app cards/previews show up.
  2. In the app switcher, swipe sideways to find the App Store app card/preview.
  3. Then swipe up on the App Store card preview to force close the application.

If you see any other apps running in the background, follow the same procedure to end them all. Doing so will help prevent any of these apps from interfering with your app store download.

After closing the App Store and clearing all background apps, reboot or soft reset your iPhone to clear and refresh its internal memory and system cache. Just follow these steps to proceed with a soft reset:

Second solution: Refresh your internet connection.

Other factors to rule out are random internet problems or network errors on the phone. For online apps like App Store to work as intended, a fast and stable internet connection is needed. If your phone is somehow experiencing some minor internet problems like intermittent connection, then that could be the main reason why you cannot update apps on your iPhone. In this case, you can try any of these methods to clear and refresh your internet connection. First, restart your phone’s Wi-Fi feature with these steps:

  1. Tap Settings from your Home screen.
  2. Select Wi-Fi.
  3. Tap the Wi-Fi switch to the OFF position.
  4. After about 30 seconds, tap the switch again to turn Wi-Fi back ON.

Wait for your iPhone to re-establish internet connection and when it’s connected, retry loading the App Store to update your apps.

If you still cannot update apps, try to use the Airplane Mode trick. Here’s how you do it on your iPhone 11:

  1. From the Home screen, tap Settings.
  2. Select Airplane Mode.
  3. Toggle the Airplane Mode switch to turn the feature ON. Doing so disables your iPhone’s wireless radios and associated features like Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
  4. While Airplane Mode is turned on, reboot or soft reset your iPhone to clear out network cache.
  5. After it reboots, go back to Settings-> Airplane Mode menu.
  6. Then toggle the Airplane Mode switch to turn it OFF again.

Performing the Airplane Mode trick gives a simultaneous restart on all wireless features of your iPhone and at the same time, eliminates any existing errors that trigger random Wi-Fi connectivity issues.

If that doesn’t do any good, try to forget and re-add your Wi-Fi network. This usually helps if the problem is attributed to a corrupted Wi-Fi network in use. Just follow these steps to continue:

  1. Go to Settings-> Wi-Fi and make sure that the Wi-Fi switch is enabled.
  2. Scroll down to the list of available Wi-Fi networks.
  3. Select your Wi-Fi network then tap the option to Forget this Network.
  4. If prompted, confirm that you want to forget your Wi-Fi network. After confirming, your network will be deleted from your device. Turn Wi-Fi off and then restart your iPhone.
  5. As soon as your phone boots up, head back to Settings-> Wi-Fi menu and enable Wi-Fi again.
  6. Wait for your Wi-Fi network to show up in the list then select it.
  7. Tap the option to Join or Connect.

You can also try switching to or connect to a different Wi-Fi network, if you’ve set up any on your device. Just forget the current Wi-Fi network you’re connected to then connect to other Wi-Fi network you prefer.

 

Third solution: Turn off App Store restrictions.

Another possible barriers to App Store downloads is a new iOS feature called Content & Privacy Restrictions. When enabled, some apps and services wouldn’t be allowed to load up completely on your device. In other words, you won’t be able to use restricted apps. To make sure this isn’t barring your iPhone from updating apps via App Store, follow these steps to check and manage restriction settings on your device:

  1. Tap Settings from the Home screen.
  2. Then tap on Screen Time.
  3. Select Content & Privacy Restrictions.
  4. Tap Content Restrictions.
  5. Enter your passcode, if prompted.
  6. Tap iTunes & App Store Purchases.
  7. Select a setting and set to Allow.

After making all necessary changes, relaunch the App Store and retry updating your apps to see if it’s already successful.

Fourth solution: Sign out of your App Store account then sign in again.

Account-related issues can also be the underlying cause. Like many other account logins, your App Store login could become voided due to many factors at some point. When this happens, you wouldn’t be able to use any associated services including App Store downloads and updates. To clear this out, follow these steps to log out and back into your App Store account:

  1. From the Home screen, tap Settings.
  2. Select iTunes & App Store.
  3. Tap to select your Apple ID.
  4. Then tap Sign Out.
  5. Reboot your iPhone then go back to Settings-> iTunes & App Store menu.
  6. Enter your Apple ID and password.
  7. Then tap Sign In to log back into your App Store and iTunes account.

Wait until you’ve successfully logged into your App Store account

 

Fifth solution: Update your iPhone 11 that cannot update apps via App Store.

The App Store is one of the pre-installed applications of your iPhone. For these apps to stay optimized and stable, they must be up-to-date. Updates for stock or preinstalled apps are usually embedded into the new iOS updates rolled by Apple periodically. If you haven’t already, then follow these steps to check for and install available software update on your iPhone 11:

  1. From the Home screen, tap Settings.
  2. Select General.
  3. Tap Software Update.

You will see a notification if a new iOS version is available. Read and review the information and then follow the onscreen instructions to download and install the update on your phone. Be sure to keep your iPhone connected to the internet.

 

Last resort: Factory reset your iPhone then set it up as new.

If all else failed to fix the problem, then you are most likely dealing with some major iOS flaw that requires more advanced solution.
