Useful iOS 13 Tips & Tricks: How To Use Swipe or QuickPath Typing

Apple has enhanced its typing features into a whole new level. Swipe typing is not new to the world of technology as Android had already integrated this type of feature to their Mobile Phones and its had been popular for quite some time now. But now, finally Apple added this new feature to iOS 13 update. Typing using a gesture-based feature called QuickPath typing or QuickPath Keyboard, is designed to make our typing a lot easier.

Apple had already been using a third-party keyboard such as the SwiftKey in the past, those that have been using this should also be familiar with QuickPath Typing although keyboard extensions doesn’t have the option for gesture typing.

The basic idea with this feature is that instead of the usual individual tap of each letter to produce a word, you now can hold down your finger to the first letter of the word and swipe over to the next letter and so on in order to formulate a single word. This is a very useful tool for those that are quite used to one-hand typing and most especially to those with Apple iPad wherein it has a bigger screen and a wider screen coverage of the keyboard. A SIMPLE GUIDE ON THE USEFUL iOS 13 TIPS AND TRICK: HOW TO USE SWIPE TYPING

Before anything else, make sure you update to the latest update iOS 13 before you can use QuickPath typing on your iPhone. Once you’ve installed iOS 13, QuickPath is enabled by default so you can immediately start typing using QuickPath Typing method. Although, not all Apple devices can support this new update. You may refer to the list below to know if the Apple Device you are using supports the new update.

Lists of Apple Devices that supports iOS 13:

  • iPhone 6S and 6S Plus.
  • iPhone SE.
  • iPhone 7 and 7 Plus.
  • iPhone 8 and 8 Plus.
  • iPhone X.
  • iPhone XS, XS Max and XR.
  • iPhone 11, 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max.
  • iPod Touch seventh generation.

If you are not using one of the above mentioned Apple Devices, you will not be able to apply the new features discussed earlier.

To use QuickPath Typing, open any app that uses the keyboard for typing. Start typing a word by lightly swiping your fingers from one letter to another letter without the need to lift your finger. For example, if you want to type the word “This”. Start by placing your finger on the letter key “T”, then as mentioned without lifting your finger swipe to the next letter which is the letter “H,  followed by “I” and then finally swipe to the letter “S”. once you’ve spelled out your desired word, life your finger off the keyboard.

Another thing to know in using QuickPath Typing is that there’s no need to press the Space Bar on the keyboard as iOS will add a space automatically for you to be able to formulate the next word by simply repeating the process for QuickPath Typing.  If you might be wondering when typing double letters in a word, not to worry because QuickPath is intelligent enough in a way that when you type the for example the word “fal”, the word “Fall” will appear when you lift your finger off the keyboard.

Not everyone gets used to the QuickPath Typing or is having a hard time using it that they opt to not use it at all. And since QuickPath is enabled by default when you’ve updated to iOS 13, you have the option to disable it by going to Settings>General>Keyboard>Slide to type>Turn Off.

Using QuickPath typing  can be challenging at first, but once you’ll get the hang of it you will notice that it is easier, more convenient and the better you’ll get used to it . You can also try the new gestures Apple has incorporated into it as well, the ability to cut, paste, copy, undo and redo.
