Troubleshooting a problem on your iPhone XS iOS 13 internet that is very slow

Slow internet browsing is one of the common internet problems in computers and mobile devices. It’s somehow a complex problem to deal with since a lot of factors must be regarded among the possible causes. Temporary network outages, weak signal, account-related issues, firmware issues on the network equipment, browser errors, software update bugs, and other software-related issues on the phone  are the things to rule out when dealing with this problem. In worst case scenarios, slow internet browsing is directly attributed to hardware damage on the network equipment or the phone itself. Before rushing to a service center though, performing some basic troubleshooting on your end is recommended. The following procedures will help rule out software-related errors that might have slowed down your iPhone’s internet connection following the recent iOS 13 update implementation. Don’t forget to do some test-browse after applying each method to find out whether or not the problem is fixed.

First solution: Power cycle (reboot) your wireless modem/router.

As mentioned earlier, slow internet connection may  be inflicted by a faulty network equipment. While the problem occurred after updating your iPhone XS to iOS 13, it is still imperative to check the status of your network equipment. Perhaps your modem or router in use is experiencing some random firmware crashes that resulted in an unstable internet connection. To clear this out, rebooting or power cycling the equipment is recommended. It helps clear out erratic file segments that caused the modem or router’s firmware to flaw. If you can access your wireless router/modem, follow these steps to reboot/power cycle it first:

  1. Press and hold the Power switch of the wireless router/modem to turn it off.
  2. Once it turned off, unplug the AC adapter from the power outlet
  3. Wait for about 1 to 2 minutes and then plug the AC adapter back into the power outlet/
  4. Finally, press the Power switch to turn the wireless router/modem back on.

Wait for the modem/router lights to become stable, especially the Wi-Fi indicator. Then reconnect your iPhone XS to your Wi-Fi network or allow it to re-establish network connection automatically when the modem/router’s Wi-Fi signal has stabilized. After it successfully connects to the Wi-Fi network, open a browser app then perform a test to check if your internet connection speed has improved. Continue to troubleshoot if it’s still slow.

Second solution: Soft reset (restart) your iPhone XS.

Random bugs inflicted by the recent iOS update that caused your internet connection to slow down can also be rectified by a simple reboot or soft reset on the phone. Network-related errors that are inflicted by minor iOS flaws can also be dealt with by the same method as it clears out erratic temporary network files that are stored as cache on your phone’s internal memory. Thus, if you haven’t already, follow these steps to soft reset your iPhone XS:

  1. Press and hold the Power/Side button and either of the Volume buttons simultaneously for a few seconds.
  2. Release the buttons once the Slide to Power off prompts on the screen.
  3. Drag the Power off slider to the right to turn off your phone.
  4. Wait for 30 seconds, then press and hold the Power/Side button again until the Apple logo appears.

Allow your phone to boot up completely and establish a connection to your Wi-Fi network. Then perform a test on any website to see if the issue has been resolved.

If you’re still not able to get a better and faster internet connection after restarting the phone, then clearing cache and deleting cookies on your browser app might also help. Accumulated browsing cache or temporary browsing data might have contained some corrupt files that caused conflicts to your browser app and thereby slows your internet connection down. If you’ve been using the built-in Safari app, then you can clear cache and cookies straight from the browser’s settings menu. Just follow the steps:

  1. Access Settings from the Home screen.
  2. Scroll down to and select Safari.
  3. Tap Advanced.
  4. Select Website Data option.
  5. Check the total space usage of the website and then tap Remove All Website Data.

After getting a confirmation message that the clearing of cache and browsing data is successful, perform a soft reset on your iPhone XS. Then open your Safari app again and visit any website to see if your internet connection has improved.

Third solution: Disable then enable the Wi-Fi again on your phone.

A simple refresh on the Wi-Fi function can also help in fixing the slow internet issue on your iPhone XS. Doing so will also remove any corrupted network data and erroneous internet files that were obtained from the recent iOS 13 update. Just follow these steps, if you haven’t already:

  1. Access Settings from the Home screen.
  2. Select Wi-Fi menu and then tap the switch to turn it off.
  3. While Wi-Fi feature is turned off, restart (soft reset) your iPhone XS.
  4. Go back to Settings-> Wi-Fi then toggle the switch to turn Wi-Fi on.

Toggling the Airplane mode switch is also an alternative option for you to refresh wireless connections on your iPhone. Enabling Airplane mode turns off all wireless radio connections of your phone while disabling it turns them back on. This action therefore allows your phone’s data transmission to refresh. Many people have found wonders from this iOS tweak so you might as well consider giving it a shot and then see what happens. Just refer to these steps:

  1. Access Settings from the Home screen.
  2. Select the Airplane Mode menu.
  3. Tap the Airplane mode switch to turn it on.
  4. While the Airplane mode is enabled, perform a soft reset on your phone.
  5. Once the phone is finished booting up, go back to Settings-> Airplane mode then toggle the switch to disable the feature.

Let your iPhone XS re-establish all radio connections including Wi-Fi then reconnect to the Internet to check and see if the problem on slow internet connection has been addressed.

Fourth solution: Forget your Wi-Fi network then connect again.

If a corrupted Wi-Fi network has something to do with it, then deleting that problematic network would be necessary. A network can also become corrupted from an update especially when the update came with automatic network settings overrides. To clear this out, forget your Wi-Fi network then set it up as new. Here’s how:

  1. Access Settings from the Home screen.
  2. Select Wi-Fi menu. If it’s disabled, just tap the switch to enable it.
  3. You will then be prompted with the list of available networks. Select your Wi-Fi network and then tap the information (i) icon next to the SSID of the Wi-Fi network name.
  4. Select the Forget This Network option.
  5. Tap Forget when asked to confirm the network deletion.

Removing all saved Wi-Fi networks is also recommended to prevent any of these networks to cause conflicts to the Wi-Fi network that you’re using. After deleting all saved Wi-Fi networks, perform a soft reset on your iPhone XS to remove network cache and likewise to clear your phone’s memory.

After it reboots, head back to Settings-> Wi-Fi menu then toggle the switch to turn Wi-Fi on. Your phone will then scan for available networks in range. Select your Wi-Fi network in the list and follow the on-screen instructions to connect successfully.

You can also enable and connect to your Wi-Fi network straight from the control center. This is one of the new iOS 13 features that allows you to enable, scan and connect to a desired Wi-Fi network straight from the Control Center.

Fifth solution: Reset network settings to fix your iPhone XS iOS 13 internet that’s very slow.

If the network settings have been overridden by the iOS update, it may cause your phone’s internet connection to go very slow. Misconfigured or incorrect settings can be rectified by performing a reset on the network settings. Doing so will erase all saved network settings on your device and revert it to the default configurations. Just follow these simple steps:

  1. Access Settings from the Home screen.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Scroll down to and then select Reset
  4. Tap the Reset Network Settings option.
  5. Enter your device passcode once prompted.
  6. Then tap to confirm network settings reset.

Once the reset is completed, your phone will reboot automatically and apply the default configurations. Since all original values and options have been restored including Wi-Fi networks, you’ll need to set it up again. After connecting to a Wi-Fi network, open your browser and check if you’re able to browse the internet with a good speed.

Is your iPhone XS iOS internet still very slow?

The above procedures are basic solutions that are typically applied to eliminate minor system flaws that caused slow browsing problem after the iOS 13 update. If none of them works, then you may have to troubleshoot further and carry out more advanced procedures including a factory reset, recovery mode restore and DFU mode restore. These methods will result in permanent data loss as they wipe everything from your iPhone system to eliminate stubborn bugs, repair any damage system components, and restore defaults. If you wish to proceed, then don’t forget to back up all critical data saved on your phone to iCloud or iTunes so you’d still be able to recover them later.

The problem may also not be from within the iPhone system or iOS 13 but with the network itself. There might be some temporary network problems or outages transpiring and thereby affects internet services in your place. To verify on this matter, contact your Internet service provider. Also care to check your current account status. Some carriers would impose a soft disconnection to accounts with unsettled problems. As a result, outgoing services including data connections are capped or limited. If your phone is getting weak or poor Wi-Fi network signal and all your devices are experiencing the same problem, then you can ask your internet service provider to reset or re-provision the router/modem from their end.

If all of these failed to fix the problem, then you better escalate it to Apple Support already. Let them know exactly how and when slow internet connection instigated on your iPhone XS and the workarounds you’ve tried in an attempt to fix the problem on your end. Should this be found an iOS 13 Internet bug, then a dedicated fix patch would be necessary.
