When this happens, the affected apps wouldn’t be able to perform well and will be acting up instead. In minor cases, the problem can easily be remedied by ending the application and then restarting it. Doing so gives these apps a quick refresh and thereby allows them to operate firmly. Just follow these steps to clear out running apps on your iPhone XS:

  1. Swipe your finger up and then pause from the Home screen.
  2. Swipe left or right to navigate through the apps preview. 
  3. Then swipe up on each app’s preview to close individual background apps. 

After clearing all background apps, perform a soft reset or restart your iPhone XS to dump erroneous cached files that were accumulated by these apps during the update. Just follow these steps to continue with a soft reset on your device:

Random closing and freezing are just two of the many symptoms to encounter. To prevent these occurrences, app developers promptly roll out necessary patches through app updates before or soon after Apple releases a new iOS version. If you haven’t set your apps to auto-install updates, then you might have missed implementing these required in-app patches. As a result, your outdated apps are now having trouble running on the new platform. In order to align these apps with the new operating system of your iPhone, updating them to the latest version is imperative. In iOS 13, there are some slight changes to update apps on an iPhone. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. Open the App Store app.
  2. Tap on your Apple ID profile picture located on the top-right corner of the screen.
  3. Scroll down to the Pending Updates section. This section is available only if there are pending updates on your phone. A list of recent updates to your apps will then show up underneath this section.
  4. To apply pending updates to individual applications, tap the Update button next to the name of the app.

There’s no need to back up files beforehand, as this process does not affect any saved information on your phone storage. Just follow these steps whenever you’re all set:

  1. Access Settings from the Home screen. 
  2. Tap General.
  3. Scroll down to and then select Reset
  4. Tap the Reset All Settings option.
  5. Enter your device passcode once prompted.
  6. Then tap to confirm all settings reset.

Allow your phone to finish the entire settings reset process and then reboots itself when done. After it restarts, default settings and original values are restored. Fifth solution: Perform a factory reset (master reset) on your iPhone XS.

At this point, resorting to major system resets would be necessary. And your next option and potential solution to try would be a factory reset. This reset wipes everything from your iPhone system including fatal iOS errors that caused your apps to stop working properly. Don’t forget to create backups of your iPhone data beforehand so you’d still be able to recover your files afterwards. You can back up your iPhone to iCloud or iTunes, as you desire. If everything is set, follow these steps to start erasing and restoring your iPhone Xs to its factory defaults:

  1. Access Settings from the Home screen. 
  2. Tap General.

  4. Tap the Erase all contents and settings option.
