Why does my iPhone battery drains faster than before? Here’s the fix.

I’m always against the idea to handicap your iPhone to save some juice. An average user should only worry about how to use, enjoy and take care of the phone. It is inevitable that the iPhone battery will deteriorate over time that’s why the older your device becomes, the shorter its battery could last… and that’s normal.

What’s not normal is when your iPhone battery reaches the critical level after just a couple of hours of normal use. This seems to be the case with some owners who contacted us about the issue. So, we really need to address this problem again for the benefit of users who need our help.

In this post, I will walk you through in troubleshooting your iPhone that’s draining its battery quickly. Actually, we don’t need to disable a bunch of good features and services to remedy a possible battery issue. What we need to do is perform a procedure for us to know why your iPhone battery dies so fast. So, continue reading as this article may be able to help you one way or another.

For iPhone owners who found our site while trying to find a solution, try to see if your phone is one of the devices we support. If it is, then visit the troubleshooting page for that device, browse through it to find issues that are similar to yours and feel free to use our solutions and workarounds. What to do if your iPhone battery dies so fast?

Apple engineers already did a great job in finding out the factors that may cause the iPhone battery to drain quickly. That’s why not all features and services are enabled out of the box. The best way to know if this problem is with the firmware or hardware is to reset your iPhone. This will bring it back to its out-of-the-box configuration. After the reset, don’t restore your backup, instead, set up your iPhone as a new device and then observe closely to know if your iPhone battery still dies fast.

Of course, prior to the reset, make sure to backup your important files and data as they will be deleted during the process. After the backup, follow these steps to reset your device:

  1. From the Home Screen of your iPhone XR, tap Settings.
  2. Scroll down and then tap General.
  3. Scroll down again, and tap Reset.
  4. Under Reset, tap Erase All Content and Settings. Remember: Doing the process will delete all the save files in your device. Make sure that you have already backed up all data, files, photos and videos that you want to keep. If you have set up an unlock code or PIN on your handset, enter the correct code to continue.
  5. Then, tap Erase iPhone. Enter your Apple ID if needed, and then tap Erase.
  6. Tap Erase iPhone once again. It may take a minute or two for the reset process to be completed. You will see the Welcome Screen, and will be asked to swipe to continue.

How to know if it’s a firmware or hardware issue that causes the iPhone battery to drain fast?

If your iPhone battery dies fast even after the reset even though it’s used normally or not used at all, then you can expect it to be a hardware issue but it might not be a battery problem. In this case, schedule an appointment at the Genius Bar.

At this point, if you still want to make your device last longer, then disable a bunch of functions and features that you don’t usually use like Bluetooth, Cellular data or Wi-Fi. Location services should also be disabled as they take up so much juice at times. Or, you may enable the power saving mode in your iPhone.

On the other hand, if the iPhone battery lasts as long as it was before, then it’s clear that the problem has been with the software and the reset fixed it. So, restore your files and data back to your device.

I hope that we’ve been able to help you fix your iPhone battery that dies so fast one way or another. We would appreciate it if you helped us spread the word so please share this post if you found it helpful. Thank you so much for reading!
