Problem 1: iPhone 6 won’t charge, charging port not working
A few weeks ago, my phone blacked out, and my screen would not turn on, but the phone itself was still receiving notifications and sounds like it was normal, then it cut off completely.
A few weeks later, as of yesterday, I plugged it in to see if it still had life, and lo and behold, it turned on with no problem. When it turned on, there was, and still is, a blue streak on my screen, and my screen has a light flicker to it. Then, my phone stopped charging, and no other charger would work, even though I knew for sure they had no problem with them. And I am the owner of some Lighting cable Apple headphones, and those wouldn’t work either, so much that my brother had to wiggle and force the charger until it charged my phone. It fully charged it, but after I took it out, it would not work anymore, and my brother could not repeat what he did the day before.
The next day, I was given a charger to see if it would work, and it charged my phone perfectly fine. But no other charger would work, nor would the headphones work either. Is it possible that my Lighting port could be having some faulty problems? — Jake
Solution: Hi Jake. Based on your problem description, there’s a big chance that this is a charging port issue. If your phone is still on at this time, be sure to back all irreplaceable data from it, then simply wipe it up by doing the following steps:
- Sign out of your iCloud account (if applicable).
- Go to Settings.
- Tap General.
- Tap Reset.
- Tap Erase All Content and Settings.
If the charging problem continues after a factory reset, then you definitely have a broken hardware. Contact Apple or any relevant party to have it repaired or replaced.
Problem 2: iPhone 6 Home button won’t work after battery replacement
I have an iPhone 6S Plus that had a battery that needed to be replaced. I ordered a replacement with kit and took my phone apart. I took the correct screws out and replaced the battery with new one although I do believe I put them back in the wrong holes. They fit but there was a big Robles afterwards. My home button stopped working as well as my speaker, headphone jack and ear jack. Now, I just have a silent iPhone with no home button. I tried to unscrew the ear jack to see if I can fix it and lost a couple of screws in return and was not able to fix the problem still. I put my phone back together but now I have two missing screws. One in the ear jack and one on the top right hand corner under the ear jack next to the apple sign. Please me if you can it would be highly appreciated. — Tyquane94
Solution: Hi Tyquane94. This is exactly the main reason why phone manufacturers like Apple and Samsung don’t want their devices tampered with by untrained users. We understand you want to cut costs by doing a repair yourself but before doing so, you should have taken into consideration the risks involved. DIY or do-it-yourself repairs not only cut costs but can sometimes be fun. However, most inexperienced users end up causing more harm than good to their devices. Sometimes, DIY repairs in online guides and videos appear easy. That’s not true at all, especially when it comes to sensitive motherboards such as an Apple device. Applying too much pressure or heat to one part may cause problems that a novice user won’t notice during actual repair. For example, any incorrect placement of delicate cable connectors can result to problems that you’ll only notice after you’ve put everything back.
We don’t know your level of expertise in doing your own iPhone repair (and we are not judging) but letting someone take care of the mess you created here would hardly be productive. First of all, even a good technician will need to have physical access to the device in order to provide an effective advice to you. Secondly, we don’t know the extent of damage you’ve created so there’s no point in discussing it here. Due to logistical consideration, this blog does not provide hardware troubleshooting and diagnostics. If you are intent on fixing the mess yourself, kindly look for other websites that offer hardware solutions like iFixit. Otherwise, let someone with enough experience handle the repair for you.
Problem 3: iPhone 6 sound cuts off randomly during calls
Hi. I have found your website in regards to hopefully solving the sound on my iPhone. I have read a previously answered question but believe it’s not the same case, although seemed very similar. My phone had been fine all day regarding the sound. It is fine with Facebook/Instagram/Snapchat/YouTube videos. It is only when I make a phone call it cuts off randomly after a few seconds and I can only seem to continue a call when it is in loud speaker – this obviously not being practical and even then still doesn’t always work. I cannot think of any reason to why it would have started doing this other than slight weather problems we’ve been having. I have not dropped my phone, although it is a second hand refurbished phone. I have tried cleaning the phone, restarting the phone and updated it as it wasn’t up to date. I have now ran out of ideas and it is very stressful as I need my phone to make many phone calls. Solution: Hi Hannah. If there’s no sound problems when you play videos or music at all, then the issue is most likely due to poor coverage or service in your area. Make sure that you talk to your carrier about it.
Problem 4: iPhone 6 screen shows dark spots in the middle after screen replacement
My daughters friend dropped her iPhone 6 plus and screen was cracked. I fixed a couple before so I thought it’s an easy fix. I replaced it, told her to let me know if there are any problems. It now says Touch ID isn’t working. (not that major of deal girl was like I can live with that, but when she touches the front of screen a certain ways dark spot appeared in top right corner (it was like the light was just out in one spot ) but went away when she didn’t press screen down. I thought maybe I didn’t do something right so she let me take phone apart and see if I missed something. Still same thing now is happening but when press on front of phone dark spots appear in middle ( like the light just goes out in spots). Please help . — Medea
Solution: Hi Medea. As mentioned above, we don’t provide hardware troubleshooting and diagnostics in this blog. As a general rule in any phone repair though, it’s always good to backtrack your steps to see if you missed something. If pressing the screen causes dark spots in the middle, you must have put too much pressure on the screen during installation. That means that there’s a chance that the replacement screen now may be damaged and needs replacing again.
Sometimes, the replacement parts themselves are already defective in the first place so even if your installation was done flawlessly, there’s always a problem waiting to happen afterwards. Consider replacing the current screen with a known working screen and see what happens after that.
Problem 5: iPhone 6 screen stays black, won’t turn on
I charged my phone last night and this morning it was fully charged. On my way to church I was on it when, for absolutely no reason, it went completely black. I tried turning it on and it did nothing. Once I got home I tried charging it to its original apple charger and it would not charge or even show the charging symbol.
I left it charging for hours and nothing. I tried different chargers, ports, outlets and even tried charging it to my laptop and NOTHING. I just bought the phone last week for $500 and I’m only 13. My parents tried to help but they have Androids. I called Apple support and they don’t know either. Can someone please help me? I don’t have any more money to put towards this phone. Solution: Hi Nelia. Does your iPhone still show signs that it’s still turning on? Some of the indications that a phone powers on although the screen remains black or blank are the following:
- LED flashing
- sound notifications
- ringing if you try to call your number
If you can observe any of these in your phone right now, then the problem must be isolated to the screen only. Try to see if you restart the phone by doing the following steps:
- Press and hold the Power/Sleep/Wake button and Home button together at the same time.
- Keep both buttons held down for 10 seconds.
- Do not release the Power/Sleep/Wake button and Home button until the home screen flashes and the Apple logo appears.
If the screen remains black you will need to send it in for repair so the defective part can be replaced.
If the phone is totally dead and not showing any of the items in the list, then it’s possible that there may be other possible failures and not just the screen. You also need to send the phone to Apple or any independent service center for repair.
We know this is not an ideal solution for you but there’s no software magic that you can do on your end to fix a bad hardware.
Problem 6: iPhone 6 screen keeps freezing after accidental drop
I dropped my iPhone 6 on tile floor and had protective shield covering the screen so no crack to the screen. Later that evening, I charged my phone and noticed the screen was frozen. I unplugged from charger and short time later, the screen was working. However since then the “frozen screen” is happening more frequently. I have held home and on/off to reset as well as have gone to settings to reset. I noticed when I push in the screen it then begins to work. Could this be a case of touch disease or something else? — Amber
Solution: Hi Amber. If the only different thing that happened prior to noticing the issue was the accidental drop, then it’s safe to assume that the screen or the motherboard may be damaged. If this is a software issue, a reset/restore should have fixed the issue. Putting your phone inside a protective casing does not protect it from physical trauma or shock during a drop. If you want to figure out the cause of your screen freezing problem, submit the phone to a thorough hardware check.
Problem 7: iPhone 6 won’t turn on, how to recover files if iPhone 6 won’t turn on
Hi. Basically I was using my phone completely fine, and then I opened up photos and it said 0 photos. So I went off it and went back on it and it said the same thing. So then I turned it off with the on and off button and went back on it and there was still 0 photos. So I thought if I like turn it off completely and turn it back on it might work. So I turned it off and tried turning it back on but it didn’t turn on and I even tried turning it on with the home and the on and off button but it still didn’t work. I tried many times and it still didn’t work. I then went to the recovery mode on my phone and went on iTunes to update it and it said ‘if update doesn’t work we have to restore it and that’s going to delete everything.’ So I didn’t want to take the risk because I didn’t want to lose the things on my phone. So can you please. Help me? — Leema
Solution: Hi Leema. First of all, if your iPhone no longer turns back on normally at this time, there’s virtually nothing much that you can do in terms of troubleshooting. You either have to go ahead with the Restore option or not. That, of course, will delete photos, videos, and other contents that you did not save to another device. There’s no way to access the contents of your iPhone unless it powers on normally.
To prevent losing data in the future, make sure to always create a backup of important files to another device. Electronic devices like smartphones can fail at any time and if you’re lazy enough to not create a copy of irreplaceable files, you only have yourself to blame.
Problem 7: iPhone 6 showing iTunes error 26 and 9, can’t restore to factory defaults
I own an iPhone 6s. This device was a replacement after the original phone got a battery issue and had to be replaced. 4 months after I got this device, the phone started lagging/freezing, apps started shutting down on its own. Later the phone started shutting down and going into recovery mode. This has happened over 20 times in the last few months. I restore using iTunes, it works for a few days and then goes back into recovery mode. Now it has gone into recovery mode but I’m unable to restore it as I get “error26 or error 9” when I restore. The dealer said I’ve to buy a new phone. Please help. — Clivemaben
Solution: Hi Clivemaben. There’s no official documentation from Apple what iTunes error 26 means or how to fix it. For error 9, this is the only official support page for it, which is not much. If the suggested solution won’t fix the issue at all, please contact Apple for further troubleshooting.
We haven’t experienced these errors you mentioned so we have no firsthand experience on how to fix it. Some sites suggest that a DFU (Device Firmware Update) restore may help in this case though so do some digging using Google and try it.
Problem 8: iPhone 6 screen shows white with black Apple logo, won’t turn on
My cell 1.5 year old cell had shown some issues previously like microphone was not working during one call, can’t take pics because it’s full, so I take pics using Facebook messenger. Still it saves photos onto cell. Had no space left on phone so that was giving me issues, like turning off or rebooting when I had not asked it to do that. I could not download any updates for any app or iTunes since I had no space. (I never used iTunes but I know there was an update due.) I never stored music.
Last week, cell rang but I didn’t answer. Someone left a message. An hour later, I went to check message but phone was off. I turned on but only black Apple logo on white screen comes up and stays there for about 15 seconds and goes to black screen.
After 3 days of charging it and trying to turn in on by pressing both buttons, keeping them pressed, waiting 8 seconds, holding only side button, etc. nothing. No change. it turns on to same white screen with black Apple logo and then black screen. Online Apple chat operator told me to download iTunes on my laptop and connect iPhone to computer with the Apple charger cables. Same thing, white screen black apple.
Then we did a 15 download from iTunes (no idea what kind of download but it took a while). After download, cell still showed white screen black apple. Apple chat operator said, “download didn’t seem to work, you can make an appointment for next week with apple service $299, plus $$ for cell replacement. (I am out of warranty and had no insurance). I can’t afford service. Can you help me for no fee please? Thank you. I think my cell is an iPhone 6. it is gold and very slim. I don’t know what iso version it is. Sprint Carrier. — Janniag

This means that if the suggested software troubleshooting steps from Apple don’t work, a user does not have a lot of options but to consider sending it in. Your case is no exception. Because your phone does not power back on normally and the Restore option via iTunes is out of the question, the only remaining step to get your iPhone working back again is by sending it to Apple. As much as we would like to help you, your case is a difficult one to fix because it doesn’t even turn on properly in the first place.
