How to fix email setup error on your Apple iPad Air 3

One of the first things to set up on a recently procured smartphone or tablet like the iPad Air 3 2019 device is your email account. Setting up an email account on a new iOS device can be done automatically or manually. Many people however would prefer automatic email setup as it’s faster and easier than manual email setup.

First solution: Reboot your iPad Air 3.

If this is the first email setup attempt you’ve made and it failed, then random glitches from minor system flaws are likely to blame. And the easiest way to rectify minor glitches like this is a system reboot or soft reset. Performing a soft reset in iOS devices also helps clear out temporary files including corrupted data that are stored as  cache. It does not affect any saved information on the internal memory hence, won’t cause permanent data loss. Here’s how to soft reset your iPad Air 3:

  1. Press and hold down the Power/Top button for a few seconds until the Power off slider appears.
  2. Drag the slider to power off your device.
  3. After a few seconds, press and hold the Power/Top button until the Apple logo appears.

Wait for your iPad to finish its bootup sequence and once it’s ready, retry setting up your email account.

Second solution: Refresh your Internet connection.

Without a stable Internet connection, the device won’t be able to communicate with the email server and vice versa. When this happens, syncing errors occur.   2. Select Wi-Fi then toggle the switch to turn Wi-Fi OFF.
  3. After a few seconds, toggle the switch again to turn Wi-Fi back on.

Alternatively, you can use the Airplane Mode tweak to refresh your iPad’s Wi-Fi system. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. From the Home screen, tap Settings.
  2. Select Airplane Mode then toggle the switch to turn Airplane mode ON.  Doing so disables the iPad’s wireless functions.
  3. While Airplane mode is enabled, reboot your iPad Air.
  4. After your iPad reboots, bo back to Settings-> Airplane Mode menu.
  5. Then toggle the switch to turn Airplane Mode off again.

Allow your iPad to re-enable its wireless functions and turn on Wi-Fi to reconnect to your Wi-Fi network.

Third solution: Check and/or reset your email account password.

If you opted for automatic email setup on your iPad Air 3, server information like the incoming and outgoing servers, port numbers as well as the email password are already inputted. While not all people who utilized automatic settings ended up with pertinent errors during setup, it’s still recommended to re-enter your email account password. Take note that the email account password appears to be encrypted usually through asterisks, dots or other unreadable characters. Fourth solution: Check and manage email server settings.

Email server settings that are used for automatic email setup are supposed to be correct. Nonetheless there are instances that this isn’t what you get and so you ended up facing different errors when attempting to set up an email account on your new iOS device. To make sure that the correct server information is inputted, manually access the account details with these steps:

  1. Navigate to Settings-> Passwords & Accounts menu.
  2. Tap to select your email account.
  3. Tap your email address next to Account then review the account details including incoming and outgoing mail servers.

Fifth solution: Reset network settings on your iPad Air.

To rule out complex network errors that might have interfered with the email setup or syncing process, performing a network reset can help. This reset doesn’t affect any saved information on the iPad storage but will erase your current network settings and disconnects your device from the Wi-Fi network. APNs, server settings and other relevant information are also cleared out and restored to defaults. If you wish to continue with this reset, then simply follow these steps:

  1. Tap Settings from the Home screen.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Scroll down to and tap Reset.
  4. Choose the option to Reset network settings.
  5. Enter your passcode when asked to proceed.
  6. Then tap the option to confirm that you want to reset network settings on your iPad Air 3.

Allow your device to finish resetting and then restores the default network values and options. Your iPad should restart automatically after the reset. By then you can start re-enabling Wi-Fi and other network features that you want to use on your iPad again.

Check and ensure that your iPad is connected to Wi-Fi internet and then retry setting up your email account to see if it goes through now.

Still unable to set up email account on your iPad Air 3?

If none of the above procedures worked and you’re still getting the same email setup error after exhausting all prior methods, then try to delete all email accounts from device and then set up your preferred email from scratch.

To delete an email account from your iPad Air 3, follow these steps:

  1. Tap Settings from the Home screen.
  2. Tap Passwords & Accounts.
  3. Navigate to the Accounts section then tap on the email account that you want to delete.
  4. Tap the option to Delete Account.
  5. Then tap Delete from My iPhone.

Follow the same steps to delete any other saved email accounts from your iPad Air 3.

After deleting all email accounts, reboot your iPad to clear out caches and then proceed to the next steps to set up your new email account. You can set up the account automatically or manually, as you desire.

To set up an email account on your iPad Air 3 automatically, just follow these steps:

  1. Tap Settings from Home.
  2. Select Passwords & Accounts.
  3. Then tap the option to Add Account.
  4. Select your Email service provider.
  5. Then enter your email address and password.
  6. Tap Next and wait for the Mail app to check and verify the account.
  7. Select the email account information that you wish to view on your device like Contacts & Calendars.
  8. Then tap Save to apply the recent changes.

To set up an email account on your iPad Air 3 manually, refer to these steps instead:

  1. Go to the Home screen, and then tap on Settings.
  2. Tap Passwords & Accounts.
  3. Then tap Add Account.
  4. Tap Other, then tap Add Mail Account.
  5. Enter your name, email address, password, and a description for your account.
  6. Tap Next to continue.
  7. The Mail app will then try to find the email settings and finish your account setup. If the Mail app finds your email settings, tap Done to finish the email account setup.
