Problem 1: iPhone 7 Plus long charging time, headphone sound only works on one side
Dear all Good morning. Wishing my message finds you well. This is Ms. Maha Elsheemy from Egypt. I am writing with regard to my mobile — iPhone 7 Plus. I bought it 2 months ago and then the started to face the following: I do encounter a two troubles:
- the battery re-charging process takes around three hours or more to be completely charged.
- in addition, the headphones work with only one side while the other side doesn’t.
Despite all of those, I tried to replace the headphones with a new one but the trouble is not fixed and only one side of the headphones works. I tried to use the troubleshooting help suggestions, for example, pressing on the lower level sound button and power key for 5-10sec. But this didn’t fix the above mentioned two troubles.
I would like to add that my mobile is new. I bought it 2 months ago. And the trouble started lately when I noticed it takes long hours to be charged plus the headphones only one side work. And I was just wondering if you could send me the contacts of customer services branches.

Solution: Hi Maha. Unlike some Android devices, Apple’s iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus d not support fast charging yet so your experience of fully charging a near empty battery is just about normal. Our own iPhone 7 Plus takes over 3 hours to fully charge too so there’s really not a problem with your device. If you want to improve the charging performance in your device, we suggest that you do the tricks below:
Charge your iPhone while in Airplane Mode. If you don’t plan on using your phone while it’s plugged in to the wall outlet, you can hasten the charging process by enabling Airplane Mode. While in this mode, all apps and services that require networking/connectivity function will be suspended, which means less number of apps running. The few apps running, the less battery consumption occurs, which also equals to fully charging the battery in a shorter time. If you’re not familiar with how to enable Airplane Mode, follow these steps:
- Launch Settings app from the Home screen.
- Next to Airplane Mode, tap the toggle switch to enable or disable airplane mode.
- You’ve now enabled or disabled airplane mode.
While in Airplane Mode, you can still use wifi in your device but we recommend that you turn it off as well.
Keep in mind that while Airplane Mode is active, you won’t be able to receive calls or text message.
Use a faster Apple charger such as the one designed for the iPad. While your iPhone 7 charger can do the normal charging rate, it does the job slower compared to that of the iPad’s charging brick. That’s because the latter’s charging brick, rated at 12W, 2.1A, can pump more needed power to the battery than your iPhone 7’s charger, which has 5W, 1A rating. We use this trick to charge our iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus most of the time since it only takes over two hours to fully charge the battery. Don’t worry, Apple confirms that it’s safe to use the iPad’s adapter to charge your iPhone 7 Plus.
Your second issue is most probably caused by a setting you’ve enabled by accident or forgotten. To fix it, we suggest that you check Mono Audio option first. You can do that by doing the following steps:
- Launch Settings app from the Home screen.
- Tap General.
- Tap Accessibility.
- Move the slider for Mono Audio under Hearing section to the left to turn it off.
- If Mono Audio is already turned off, the most likely reason is option at the bottom to turn audio all the way to left or right speaker. Make sure that this is not the case by putting the speakers balance indicator in the middle instead of all the way to the left or right.
Problem 2: iPhone 7 Plus microphone not working when using other apps
I recently purchased an iPhone 7 plus. 6 mos after the good working days with this device, i experienced problems on the microphones. During a normal voice calls it works really good. But when i turn into some app with video chat, the microphone will not work anymore. The same as clear as the normal voice calls. Even Siri cannot hear me.
I also tried voice recording and still not working. But when i connect the headphone jack it will work. I tried soft reset but nothing happens. Do you have any solutions for this issue? — Cganengyao
Solution: Hi Cganengyao. Are you using a headset during normal voice calls or not? If you are, then your phone’s microphone is most probably fried for some reason. Voice calls using a headset does not use the built-in phone microphone as you’re utilizing the headset’s own microphone.
However, if you’re not using a headset during normal voice calls and the other end can hear you just fine, there may be a software problem preventing the microphone from working when accessed by other apps. To fix the issue, we suggest that you do a restore the phone as a new device. Avoid restoring from backup to prevent re-introducing the bug that may be caused by one of your apps. To restore your iPhone 7 plus, kindly do the following:
- Create a backup of your files. You can do that in a number of ways but the fastest and most effective way is by using iTunes in your PC or Mac. If you don’t want to create a backup at all, you can simply erase everything on the phone by following the steps in this link.
- Connect your iPhone to your computer with the cable that came with your phone.
- We assume you remember your phone’s passcode so simply enter it when you’re prompted for it.
- Select your iPhone once iTunes asks you for the specific device.
- Once you’re in the Summary panel or screen, select the option that will restore your device (Restore).
- Confirm by clicking on Restore button.
- Wait for a few moments while iTunes restores your device to its factory settings. It may also take some time if iTunes will need to install an updated operating system version.
- After this factory reset, all software settings should be restored to their defaults.
Problem 3: iPhone 7 voice calls drops in and out
Every time I make a call, or receive a call. The recipient keeps having to tell me to repeat what I have said. The call drops in and out, and can only be described as if I am walking away from the phone. I have changed networks, but the problem still remains. I contacted Apple, and they conducted a diagnostic check whilst on the phone, and it all came back 100%. I have tried turning off my 4G, but it still happens. Please help, as it is driving me crazy. — Tim Byles
Solution: Hi Tim. There are only three possible reasons for your problem:
- bad microphone
- unknown hardware issue
- bad signal reception/poor network service in your location/network problem
To check if it’s a microphone problem, you want to do a simple trick. Follow these steps:
- Open the Voice Memos app from your Home screen. If you can’t find it, try checking the Utilities folder.
- Tap the red record button so you can record your own voice.
- Tap the stop button to stop the recording at any time. If you want to continue with the same recording, you can hit record again.
- Tap Done when you are satisfied with your recording. Type a name into the field if you wish to name your recording.
- Tap Save.
Once’you’ve saved the recording, open it again and listen to it. If you can hear your voice clearly, without any obvious static or interference, that means the device’s microphone is working. That leaves you two possible reasons — an unknown phone issue, or a network-side issue. Since there’s no way to know which of them is true, we suggest that you talk to your carrier and let them know about the problem. In most cases, network problems are to blame so let them help you isolate the cause. If they’ll say that there are no issues on their network in your area, you’ll most likely be advised to get a new phone. In that case, you should contact Apple so they can process a replacement phone for you.
