Snapchat is one of the not-so-salient but most popular messaging apps widely used by teens these days. It works by letting users exchange photos and videos called snaps. These apps will disappear after they are viewed by all recipients, unless you add them to your story. Snaps that are added to your story will be deleted after 24 hours. Video snaps can be a maximum of 10 seconds.
In order to use Snapchat, you will need a phone that has a camera and access to the Internet. You can connect to the Internet through either Wi-Fi or mobile/cellular data. Snapchat app comes with a version for Android and iOS devices. To get started using Snapchat on your iPhone, download and install the app from the App Store then sign up for a Snapchat account. How to troubleshoot iPhone XS Max with Snapchat app that keeps crashing
Before troubleshooting app problems, check and ensure that your iPhone is connect to the Internet. If your device is experiencing Internet connectivity issues from slow browsing to intermittent or no Internet connection at all, then that’s what you need to deal with first. If the Internet is working fine and all other online apps are functional except for Snapchat, then you can proceed and troubleshoot the app with these methods.
First solution: Quit the app then open it again.
The first things to rule out are random app glitches. Like computer programs, mobile apps also encounter minor errors randomly. And you would just realize that this happens if the app suddenly stops working as intended. The simplest yet effective solution to random app glitches would be to end and restart the application. In iOS devices, this is carried out by ending or forcing the app to close and then opening it again. Here’s how it’s done:
- From the Home screen, swipe your finger up and then pause.
- Swipe right or left to navigate through apps preview.
- Then swipe up on the Snapchat preview to quit/end the app.
If you see any other suspended apps, clear them all so as not to let any of them interfere with Snapchat.
Second solution: Soft reset/reboot your iPhone.
Aside from random app glitches, random software errors on the device itself can also be the underlying cause of the problem. But the good thing is that these errors are usually rectified by a device restart, also known as soft reset on the iPhone. If you haven’t already, then here’s how it’s done:
- Press and hold the Side/Power button and either Volume buttons simultaneously for a few seconds.
- Release the buttons when the Slide to Power Off command appears and then drag the power off slider to the right.
- After 30 seconds, press and hold the Power/Side button again until the phone reboots.
Alternatively, you can force restart your iPhone XS Max. A force restart does the same job as soft reset does when dealing with minor software errors and glitches but carried out in a different manner. In case you wish to give it a try, simply refer to these steps:
- Press and quickly release the Volume Up button.
- Press and quickly release the Volume Down button.
- Then, press and hold the Power button on the side of the phone and then release when the phone enters the boot-up sequence.
Both these methods do the same thing and that is to restart the phone system. But a force restart however is carried out in a different way as it involves the hardware keys, thus it’s a recommended method to restart a frozen iPhone. Both these methods won’t affect any saved information on the phone memory, thus backing up files won’t be necessary.
Third solution: Update Snapchat.
Updates not only offer new features but more importantly, fix patches that are programmed to clear out bug-inflicted errors including those that caused Snapchat to glitch. To manually check for and install pending updates for Snapchat and other apps on your iPhone XS Max, simply do these:
- Tap to open the App Store then scroll down to Updates section.
- Navigate through the list of apps with pending updates.
- Find Snapchat then tap the Update button next to it. Doing so will download and install pending update for Snapchat.
- If multiple app updates are available, tap the Update All button to install all app updates at once.
Once all your apps are finished updating, restart your iPhone or do a soft reset to apply the recent app changes and to clear errant caches from the phone memory.
Aside from app updates, it also helps to update your iPhone software to the latest version available.
- To check for new iOS update, head over to Settings-> General-> Software Update menu.
If a new iOS version is up for grabs, back up all your critical files then follow the onscreen commands to download and install new update on your iPhone XS Max.
Restart your iPhone after updating iOS to prevent any apps from acting up following the recent system transition.
Fourth solution: Reinstall the app.
Snapchat might have been totally borked and no longer able to work unless you reinstall it on your phone. But this also means the need for you to uninstall the problematic app. If you wish to try it, then here’s how:
- From the Home screen, tap and hold on an app icon until the icons start jiggling.
- Tap the X on the Snapchat app icon.
- Read the warning prompt, and then select Delete to confirm deletion of the app.
- Soft reset or restart your iPhone XS Max after deleting Snapchat app.
- Then open the App Store again.
- From the main screen, search for and select Snapchat app from the App Store search results.
- Tap the Cloud icon or Get button to download and reinstall the app.
- Follow the onscreen instructions to finish installing Snapchat on your device.
When the app is successfully installed, you will see its icon added on the main app screen. To test and see if the recently installed Snapchat app is working, tap the icon to launch the application.
Fifth solution: Reset all settings on your iPhone.
Performing system resets can be considered among the last resorts if the problem continues after applying the previous solutions. If the problem is from within the application, the above solutions will likely suffice. Otherwise, something in the phone system must be fixed. If Snapchat started to act up after making some changes to your iPhone settings or after installing new updates, then invalid settings or options are likely to blame. To clear this out, you can try performing this reset to wipe all customized settings and options on your iPhone XS Max, and then restore the default or original values:
- Tap Settings from the Home screen.
- Select General.
- Scroll down to and then tap on Reset.
- Select Reset all settings from the given option.
- Enter your passcode when asked to continue.
- Then tap the option to confirm all settings reset.
This reset doesn’t cause data loss so you don’t need to create backups. After the reset, your iPhone reboots by itself and then loads the original configuration. As soon as it boots up, enable individual features and options that you want to use on your phone again including Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.
