The Apple Watch has caught on like wildfire, becoming a major success very quickly. The first two models were fairly basic in their capabilities; however, Apple stepped it up a notch with the Series 3 and most definitely with the Series 4. There’s some frustrations with the Series 4 model — primarily that it’s just so expensive — that has consumers looking at earlier versions of the Apple Watch to cut back on costs. The Series 4 brings its users some on-the-cusp technology, but that does come at a price that aren’t OK for many.

It’s the difference of spending $500 on a watch for all of the latest technology, or $300 on a watch, and not having all of the latest and greatest features. The value is different for everyone, which is why we’ve constructed this guide for you — to show you the major differences between the Apple Watch Series 3 and Series 4. We’ll hopefully help you decide which one is major valuable to you, and maybe even save you a couple of dollars in the process. Let’s dive right in, shall we?
As you might imagine, the differences between the Series 3 and the Series 4 are pretty minimal — there’s actually only a couple of unique things that come to the Apple Watch Series 4. One of those is unique Series 4 watch faces for the corner-to-corner screen, but then there’s also a “fall” feature. So, if you fall during a jog or really anywhere, the Apple Watch Series 4 is able to automatically detect “major or bad falls”, and call emergency services to get you help as soon as possible. Don’t worry though: this feature is on a timer that will allow you to stop it in the event that it was a small fall that you were or are able to easily recover from. It’s also not 100% accurate, with the Series 4 not always being able to detect a fall, especially if you do regular physical activity.
Apple Watch Series 4 also has the ECG feature — the software is able to take electrocardiogram readings right on your wrist for users that are 22 years and older. The ECG app even allows you to share your results with your doctor in order to help you communicate a potential problem to your doctor.
One of the biggest differences between the Apple Watch Series 4 and any other Apple Watch is the design, which we already touched on slightly. Apple with the Series 4 has moved towards an almost bezel-less display direction, giving your screen a corner-to-corner design. That makes your Series 4 Watch’s display not only appear larger, but also gives it a fresh and premium appearance.
The Apple Watch Series 4 also comes with a much higher price point. Depending on your customization and hardware modifications, it can cost you anywhere between $400 and $500 for a Series 4 with just the silicone band.

The Apple Watch Series 3 is just a year older than the Apple Watch Series 4, and while there aren’t many differences between the two watches, there are a couple. Those are primarily the obvious ones that are unique to the Series 4 — that means that, in the Series 3, you aren’t going to get things like fall tracking and ECG measuring.
Even in the Series 3, the major differences comes down to design. The Apple Watch Series 4 has a bezel-less, corner to corner design, which gives it a slim, but larger display profile, whereas with the Series 3, you’re going to get a slightly thicker bezel and smaller screen.
The Series 3 was actually the first Apple Watch that came with cellular technology, allowing you to use this independent of your smartphone. That same capability is int he Apple Watch Series 4, but in nothing before the Series 3.
The Apple Watch Series 3 is an excellent choice — and if you don’t mind skipping out on fall tracking, ECG measurements, and the corner-to-corner display, you can save yourself a couple of bucks. After all, instead of between $400 and $500 for an Apple Watch Series 4, you can pick yourself up the Series 3 for just $280, brand new.

The Apple Watch Series 3 and the Apple Watch Series 4 are the two watch models where there aren’t a whole lot of differences between the two watches. The major differences come down to the display type, and fall tracking and ECG features. If you can live without those, you can save yourself some decent money by going with an Apple Watch Series 3.
However, if you want to stay on the cusp of technology, the Apple Watch Series 4 is a great option that not only brings you an attractive design, but also brings you all of the latest and greatest features on the market.
